CBT BOOKED

Postby pel on Mon Jun 18, 2007 12:18 pm

my wife to her CBT last weekend and she wasn't allowed out on the road, at the end of, she had a scooter and hasn't ridden anyting before at all only push bikes, she has never had to control a throttle and alas she lost control of the bike and crashed into a bush in the school training area, this event has now put her off completely and she is now selling the bike i had bought her for after she had passed, the trainer didn't help her learn how to control the throttle just told her what to do, after her crash (which was only an hour into training) she soldiered on for 3 hours with a bent brake lever and a broken bike, even the instructed said he just hoped it last the session, she is now giving up biking and doesn't want to ride again saying that she usless and no good at anything, we cant afford for training everyweek to get her through sadly. not sure why i posted this just thought it would fit in,

Hello there,
My name is Maria, all this nonsense has started over me falling off my bike....
OOOUUUCH
It sounds like your wife has had a very bad experience bless her,and the training school she went with sounds sh*te,
Tell your wife never to give up and go to a different training school, some are better than others, she should also have been given another bike.
I was in my first hour when i fell off,but i tried again and was a bit shakey so i thought i would go back a few days later,
Your wife is not useless,if anything she has proved to herself that sometimes making an adult and mature decision is for the best.

TRY A DIFFERENT SCHOOL....

i told her she was not usless and that she was more then capable of learning, but she has been knocked with this too much to continue to learn now, she will how ever pillion and she is going to take driving lessons to get her road confidence up, so for now we are selling her 125 and putting the money towards driving lessons maybe after she passes her car test she'll have the confidence to try again, i am a little saddened by her decision as i wanted my wife to be my riding partner too but i will stand by her choice, i'd rather that than stand by her grave becuase she made a decision she wasn't ready for. anyway anybody wanna buy a sym huskey 125 (cruiser style)

one quick question for people reading this, does anyone know any places in suffolk where someone can ride without a CBT to learn, the instructor seems quite suprised that my wife hadn't ridden anything before, but how is she supposed to practise without a CBT in the first place.

Pel - try your local dealer for a recommendation re rider training and go and have a chat with them Also your local IAM (bike division) can possibly recommend someone.

I honestly believe that so much about riding is confidence, sometimes it can be high and sometimes, rock bottom and if you can pick up your confidence level, you are off again. Get your wife to read the heading 'Don't ask me how I know' and see how many of the long time riding folk have done silly and funny things and it makes you realise that we all have our moments - also I do not think any other topic has made me laugh so much

hmmm according to their website the instruction guy in question IS a IAM evaluation rider or something like that anyway. but from what my wife has described i will not even consider her going back to them, there was only two learners with one instructor and there was no spare bikes as the site they use is a van drive away fromt he shop you meet them at, their website describes good off road training site on location but in reality its actually a school car park about 10mins van ride away, the scooter my wife was riding apparently had something broken and even the instructor had trouble riding it low speeds from the what my wife described the engine was hunting all the time and wouldn't run smooth i already mentioned the broken brake lever making it harder for her to each and use the brakes comfortably, she was unable to have extra training while the other trainee went on his road becuase a) there was no bike and b) there was no instructor. so my wifes CBT lessons ended when the other lad went out on the road and she was left to come home in tears :( . all this from a school that has a IAM evealution rider as an Instructor and recommended by several local dealers, in my opinion they are only anygood if you have experience and do not need to be taught, and if you have ANY nerves or confidance issue forget them completly.... IF she decides to try again at a later date i will prob use Camrider, i had them years ago and have good memories of them being a proffessional well organised outfit.

:( Gosh that is awful ...... would suggest you let the dealers know what rubbish they are and I would be tempted to write to the local IAM.
