Hey Maria
You've paid for the training - it doesn't matter how long it takes you to get there.

I was lucky - after my fourth failure I had a word with a very sympathetic Site manager, and rode around the works car park at weekends. Next CBT day I managed to cope with my 'road nerves', because I felt confident enough to cope with whatever the numpties could throw at me.

Everyone is right Maria...thats what the CBT is for...its not called Compulsary Basic training for nothing

They will keep on and on with your training until you feel perfectly happy and confident to venture futher afield i.e. the road, thats their job, thats what you pay for.

Dont let anyone knock your confidence...maybe ask to try different bikes until you find one a bit more to your liking...thats what I did!

We ALL fall off for different reasons, some not our fault, some completly stupid (ay ChrisTR :P ) and most of us that fall of nowadays have passed out tests! The way I see it is your getting up to date training with all the new laws that are coming in I should imagine and I dont think theres many of us that would pass nowadays?

Keep up with the training girl and take as long as it takes to get your confidence. DONT settle for anything less...none of us want to see you out on the road if you dont feel ready for it (and I mean that in the nicest sense)....be thinking of you :D

Hello Maria,

Take your time and relax a little if you can, it's better to take a little longer and go onto the roads with some confidence, so you'll really enjoy your motorcycling.
Good luck again, then after you've done the CBT and passed your test, you can go out and get a VF1000R.
(Only a suggestion!!).

If this was a car driver would there be so much encouragement for her to get out onto the road? How kind is it to encourage and urge someone to do something - dangerous - that they are obviously not comfortable with?

ahh but being the CBT i doubt she has been on the road yet, they not going to take her onto the road and into traffic until she is ready.
we want to encourage her to stick at it until she feels comfortable on the bike and not give up now.

I reiterate what I wrote above...Ok without wanting to take sides I DO actually agree with what Barry has said this time...It WOULD be dangerous for Maria to take to the roads if she wasn't ready, not just dangerous for herself but everyone else on the roads as well, but that is exactly why we are all giving her encouragement in our own ways to stick at her CBT as long as it takes!

Only Maria will know when she feels ready :D

You keep at that CBT as long as it takes girl and hopefully you have a sympathic trainer.

Hi Ya, im Marias Husband and have been watching her doing the Training "she asked me too" and i think if more stupid little twerps who pass there test's and then go out on the road and kill someone in there cars thought like Maria and took there time training there would be a lot less death on the roads. If she dident want to do it she wouldent and anybody who no's my wife will no what im talking about...... she is doing very well and i think will make a dam good motorcyclist no one is pushing her into anything. Yes she's a bit nervous "like we all were first time" but with training she will ride her own bike "very well" if we had all giving up because of a fall i would of given up......Mmmmmmm let me think....... Mmmmmmm.......... a lot of times...

my instructor thinks i need valium to calm me down

This was a joke by the way..... im just glad that Barry dosent train motorcyclist or they would be a lot of people not bothering, and was he a Fantastic Rider from the first moment he put his leg over a bike or did someone encourage him. Barry the bike fell over and just Knocked her confidence a bit it was the first time she had ever been on a bike on her own....but it wont be the last.......

I am a motorcyclists, but I am not evangelical about it. The physical side of bike riding is not at all difficult if the rider is young, fit and enthusiastic.

Where the training seems to fail is installing a sense of responsibility that goes with the speed and agility of bikes. Every week, I read in my local newspaper of another new rider who has had an accident or been killed.

I know of lots of people who having got their bike licence, have messed about with bikes for a few months then given up biking - some having frightened themselves, others after their first 'off', and others who have just moved on. That is probably why I have no great empathy for novice riders.

was he a Fantastic Rider from the first moment he put his leg over a bike or did someone encourage him

My father* did take me out - on the pillion - to Pole Hill and watch me ride up and down a quiet road for a couple of hours. He then sat on the back as I rode the bike back to South London.
This did not turn me into a fantastic bikes but at least I was a safe one - at least for the first 55 years. Year 56 was a bit of a black spot, but I am not too worried about it. Year 57 is better, on the biking front, already. :D

*My father wished to get ride of the sidecar from his bike. The sooner I could ride my own bike, the sooner the sidecar could go. I do know of riders who have encouraged their partners to ride their own bikes, in order to get rid of a pillion passenger :?

..Er thats a little Harsh LP!!..I got off me bike rapidly, ... not putting the kick stand down correctly as I went to help a mate who had got into trouble!!..hope you remember the incident!!

Barry is correct about some riders though...... getting on two wheels and riding like complete A***Holes.

..Roy and I were out yesterday on a run and up behind came 4 medium bikes (600s)...we wernt hanging about either of course!!... but I have never seen such idiotic riding!!...( Er till the last time I saw it of course!!)..overtaking lines of cars on blind bends at huge speed crossing solid white lines with no consideration for any one else!....Whats my Point?..well these idiots passed their CBT and then (presumably) DAS or whatever! I fully expect to read about their involvement in some incident during the summer season...many bikers come to grief in Lincolnshire every year! :?
Who Cares if it aint Broke!!..Fix it Anyway!!

Look this is getting silly now, THE BIKE FELL OVER..... Maria will make a very good Biker, NO ONE is trying to get rid of her off the back And if the Dead Bikers you read about had taken there time Like my wife they wouldent be dead. Nobody in my family wanted me to have a bike so i spent hours in a car park at night on my own learning the clutch and how to ride. I hope you all keep supporting her "like you have been" Apart from Barry and hopefully new riders wont come up against people who think if you have a set back you should pack it all in, thankfully Marias trainer isent like that.....

Anyway thats it i cant be bothered with this anymore, Thanks again for the support and WATCH THIS SPACE......
