Discount offers...

Postby Red Mick on Tue May 13, 2008 8:46 pm

...well, one in particular.

Being a recent returnee to the HOC, having been a long term member, I decided to try Cusworth's in Doncaster again. They've always been listed as offering 12.5%, but again, they would only give me 10%.

I know this is carping over a small amount, but if it's only 10%, why does the mag always list 12.5%?

Update...

I see that in the latest issue of Golden WIng, this is still listed as 12.5% discount.

I went into the shop yesterday to buy a coat and was told that 'club discount cannot be more than 5%'

This misinformation about discounts is one of the disappointments which I often come across with various clubs and organisations, it smacks rather of a big come on to encourage people to join, when in actual fact it's a non existent benefit.

Can these discounts be either confirmed as correct, or taken out of the discount list?

We only publish what we are told and cannot dictate the discount offered. Hein Gericke for instance offer 15% on purchases over £25 at our local branch. Other branches offer some discount without minimum purchase some do no discount at all. What do we publish?

Always worth asking why they have changed the amount. Although the answer would probably be something like 'due to the credit crunch, interest rates and inflation blah blah blah!'

Sorry if it is wrong in GW but we can only work with what we are told at time of going to press.

I was in an HG store last week and when I enquired at a discount for HOC the responce was they didn't know anything about it!

I didn't buy anything anyway, it wasn't in stock. They didn't have any catalouges either which I thought was poor.

I have to agree with Dibble on this one - where the discounts are offered from a range of franchise shops, they can vary. :o( Our local HG (Reading) gives 10% discount on everything :P and is very, very supportive of our Branch. A really nice guy - well worth a visit from anyone in the area (no Chris I am not on commission! 8) I just give praise where praise is due!!!) MPS at Dorchester in our area is also good and gives a 10% discount - does Frank Thomas stuff which is more reasonably priced than the HG stuff.

Well, HG in Lincoln dont give any discount for HOC members...very dissapointing but as they are franchise shops, its down to the owner/managers discretion I suppose! :|

I will send a quick email to Tim and ask if we can add a note saying 'at the discretion of the Branch' or something similar in the Autumn issue ;o)

At the risk of labouring a point, it is one shop, so the 'branch discretion' does'nt enter into it, either Cusworth's are giving HOC a discount, or they're not.

IMHO the dealers offering a discount should be published in the mag & just insert "contact dealer for discount rate" rather than putting a discount down that may be incorrect.

Manchester HG didn't know anything about the HOC discount - but gave me 5% anyway.

I think this whole area needs to be investigated with the relevant dealers.

HG in Farnborough claimed that they didn't offer discounts to anyone. When pushed, they gave me £10 off a (£150) pair of boots when i told them I'd go and get them from a discount store.

The manager/franchisee(?) at Reading is one of the good guys. Always pleasant and happy to chat. Made me a cup of coffee last time I was there (in a mug!). He's also an Observer at TVAM and fairly well known in the local biking community.

Peter, the manager of HG Northampton always gave me 10% without asking, it ensured I always went back, he has moved on now, wonder where?
I was in another HG branch up North and they also gave me 10% off a paddock stand (I did mention Pete's name though)

Tracy at Avonevale (now motorcycle world) in Northampton always gave me 10%, but the parts department pissed and moaned about it and made me feel a piker for asking.

Rivetts wont give you a ha'penny off anything, tight buggers, I wont shop there, althogh I like Frank Thomas gear.

I think we should just give all the dealers in the wing who advertise a discount a quick ring to establish once and for all what the discount is and if it applys to all branches if they have them.

I volounteer to do this if nobody else wants to do it.

Regards, Al
