Donington or Silverstone

Donington or Silverstone

Postby KnightVeffer on Sun Jul 06, 2008 11:49 pm

After the news this weekend about Silverstone is losing the F1 in 2010 and that Donington is to host it from then on.

What about Motogp's chances continuing at Donington or the possibilty of it going to Silverstone?

Personally I feel that if it was to stay at Donington and F1 racing there they will have to spend some serious money on it to bring to spec for either race now, but also the price for entry would increase too.
If MotoGP was to move to Silverstone I feel that the price may still go up and the various times I have watched bike racing, BSB and SBK, Its not got quite the same atmosphere as Donington or for that matter Brands Hatch, but the facilities that Silverstone offer is world class with a good road network in and out with plenty of areas to see the circuit.

Another factor is the TV rights now that Eurosport will not have the contract either from 2010, BBC, ITV need to raise there game as far as coverage instead of sticking it on at silly times of the night/very early hours in the morning and lets hope that who ever gets the job they employ Julian and Toby 8)

I think your quite right. Donington is a very good bike track and its infrastructure can support the vast number of spectators who turn up on their bikes. I went to an international car race meeting there last year with my son and even though the spectator number was only around 20,000, the traffic was atrocious. I couldn't imagine it with 150,000 spectators for an F1 GP. The racing facilities at Silverstone are first class in my opinion and the surrounding roads have been improved so much since the first time I visited. Saying that I don't think it's a particularly good circuit for racing bikes on. I think it's too wide, too fast and un challenging for the rider. Viewing options for bike racing are probably better at Donington as well.

I'm not sure how the F1 circus will take to switching to Donington though, we shall have to wait and see but I hope the bikes stay there.

Take on board all the points raised ;o) - particularly about the track but I do think the facilities and access are so much better at Silverstone. Donington's are so lacking :o( and I am afraid I have not been back to Donington for the bike racing as getting out after the racing is such a nightmare - Mugella in Italy was even better and that is saying something  !

I think it is a shame that Eurosport have lost the racing  as they do give it a high priority (aha :o)) but maybe I can now save my Sky subscription!!!) and I worry that, particulary ITV will not do such a good job and the Beeb will probably make it into a 'phone in who's going to win' silly game :x !

I have to be honest, never been to either place, and watching bikes, cars or people going round and round is not my idea of fun. But then each to their own!!

:o0 oh Jimmy I rarely disagree with you but the adrenalin, the noise the excitement of the dicing for position (bike racing I am referring to of course!) - the delight when your favourite is in front - the wishing you could ride like that ! :o)) I SO miss the racing when it finishes! (you'd never guess! )

I have to agree with Erica here it is good fun and you would never get the same feelings when you watch it on the TV 8)

But I share jimmy b's thoughts, not about circuit racing, but about football, 22 grown men chasing a bag of wind around a lawn for 90mins, then sharing a bath together after the game :|

But then each to their own!!
