As the rally was only 4 miles from home and I was riding home each night, I could not fully partake in the frivolities - couldn't get drunk enough! So I was there as a patient.
Most of the men seemed to enjoy being dressed as nurses. There was a sprinkling of Dr Who's.

There were some 375 at the rally and they raised over £1000.00 in the raffle.

Even though I have been unable to camp for the last few years, I do think camping rallies are the best.

Can anyone recommend a camp bed that I could carry on the bike?

Barry

My camp beds pack up reasonably small and could be carried on a bike.

However if you are thinking about Weymouth, I could always take a camp bed for you as there will be room in the car?

Personally I've gone off camp beds now and prefer to use an air bed, possibly a bit heavier to carry than a camp bed, but again not a problem in the car and the 12volt compressor makes inflation easy.

Thanks for the offer Chimpy. But I am thinking of other, all camping rallies. I have tried an air bed, but found it a problem being so low to the ground. :o(

The truth is, I am probably kidding myself thinking about camping at all :o(

The nice thing about an air bed is it floats when a torrent of water rushes through the camp (thinks back to the Le Mans 24 hour race last year) and you don't get wet.

Get yourself booked into a caravan Barry, there are several others looking to share at the National so I'm sure you could split the costs accordingly and have the pleasure of riding the bike and the comfort of a decent bed.

I'm sure there will still be some vans available, and if you complete the booking form they are pretty prompt in getting back to you.

I know that Jimmy B is looking for space and I think there are some from Three Shires still on the lookout for a place to rest their weary heads... and perhaps some others who, with a bit of encouragement, might be interested in coming to the rally if van space was available.. :o)

Yes I'm still looking for a place to rest my head. Normally I would camp, but as the place is more up market, I thought I'd save space for clean clothes instead ;o)

Hi Barry

I just got off the phone to Heather - she's been having all kinds of technical problems!

Heather asked me to let you know that there are runs planned on both Saturday and Sunday of the rally and that a full itinerary of the weekend will be given out upon arrival.

Hope this is helpful.

Not really, I really do need to know what the theme is for the fancy dress.

Oh well, at least I tried.
I suggest you do what I did and actually make the effort to ring Heather and speak to her. Her contact details are in the Golden Wing and on the branches page on here.

She didn't mention fancy dress...

Yes you did and thank you for that :o))

I suspect the truth is, that apart from a couple of ride outs there will not be any other events to shout about. :o(

Barry if dressing up is your thing then please do then we all have something to shout about :o)) :o)) :o))

As ever the gathering of hundreds of people together for a common purpose event is sufficient to shout about. I can recall every National Rally I have been to and all have had something good to mark them. 8)

I have been to many bigger events too and some of those have some less memorable or attractive features. For example queing for overflowing bogs at the Bulldog Bash and Rock and Blues. Events expecting thousands to attend pay large sums of money to stay in a field and then provide fatty burgers, slimey bacon butties and toilets barely enough for a few hundred. That from organisers with budgets ten times ours.

We provide comfy accomodation, warm bar and restraunt where everyone can get together if they want to and then some guided tours of what is normally unfamiliar territory for most people. Then of course there are the smaller more private parties that occur around the site and event. ;o)
We used to play lots of silly games; some still do; however the majority just want a nice sociable and comfortable weekend away with their friends made over the year(s). :o))
