As the weather is predicted to be the same as today, rain ALL day, I'm not going to the show on the bike. We won't be leading a run tommorrow.
However, as we really like the idea of this event, we will be going in the car.
So if you want to meet there, drop me a txt on 07754 893925 and we can meet up.

Since you 'oop north' had the best weather of the weekend I trust you were all out and about and promoting the HOC to all those lapping up the norths summer.

Having spent last weekend stood at the BMF talking to prospective and existing members of the HOC then stood all day on Friday at drafty Donnington Park for the Blade day I felt in need of a day not getting soaked just to say I was there.

Be careful over statements regarding fairweather bikers. Some of us have to do it all year around it is nice occasionally to have a choice.

Fairweather biker...... yep that's me :o0

I don't see the point in starting off wet and cold when I don't need to.
If I get caught in the rain, then so be it.
But there's nothing worse than getting somewhere wet, trudging around steaming and damp, then riding home. :o(

Now I have the choice of car or bike 8)

No one with a choice of car or bike can be a proper biker

Come to that, you really need dirty broken fingernails and long greasy hair to be a proper biker. In one proper biker group I belonged to as a young man you had to be able to 'pee' up and over your bike to belong.

As a car owner and also failing on all other counts, I no longer consider myself as a proper biker :o(

Fortunately Barry times have changed and the definition must change with them.

I could not call myself a proper biker by your definition, but I have rode professionally (for a living) in the past and I did have bikes as sole means of transport at several times, meaning riding in rain, sleet or snow. It wasn't fun then and I'm sure it wouldn't be any more pleasurable now, so I choose.

Oh and I never had long greasy hair, mine was too curly.

Fortunately

Not too sure about that?

Not too sure about that either.

I do not subscribe to the PC concept that everything must be all inclusive for everyone.

I am quite prepared to accept that I have moved on from being a 'proper biker'. I am now a leisure motorcyclist, a status that I quite enjoy. :o))

I suspect that the majority of riders and members of the HOC-GB now fall into the category of leisure motorcyclist - readers of Motorcycle Sport and Leisure rather than the more hard core biker mags.

Professional riders may or may not be bikers. Having to ride in all weathers does not necessarily define a biker. There are plenty of people who commute on motorcycles who are not bikers.

I think there is a place for all sorts of motorcyclists - each of them enjoyable in their own right - even the fake rockers you now get at the Ace café ;o)

So, as I have not owner a car since 1995, does this make a proper biker?

Absolutely Jimmy and strictly speaking I don't have a car registered in my name any more (mine's a company car and our family car is registered in Mrs Chimpys name).

The car I 'have access to' is Ruth's anyway, plus it's only half a car anyway

So do I get my proper biker status back ;o)
