I've got this crossing sorted, come off night shift and get a few hours sleep. Jump on the bike and ride the 231-miles from home to Portsmouth arriving in plenty of time. I'm usually close to the front of the bike que on the quayside so one of the first to board and get my bike strapped down.
Now this is where my plan tends to go a little pear shaped as I oftern drop on the biker who's never done a ferry crossing and who's stood there with the ratchet strap that the crew have just given him, wondering what to do with it or how to work it. Well I'm not the kind of guy to leave people to struggle so I'll offer my help so I get a little delayed but not a problem.
Next I'm off up into the Bar to stake my claim to a bench seat and a couple of pints before the noisy bar grows quiet and sleep follows
