You will need holiday insurance, I used

The amount we were charged is: £10.50

http://www.squaremouth.co.uk

you will need 120 Euros for your accom (40 per Night) + spending money and Fuel

Then Euros for other meals etc inless you put them on your card somewhere between 300 and 600 euros depending on how much you want to spend

The Ferry company should be suppling all the tie downs that are needed (The main reason we are using is that they take care of bikers)

Hi neil,
Don't forget your mot cert if you bike has one.
The ferry people will supply a ratchet strap and a pad to protect your seat where the strap goes over but you will need to secure the bike. I'll do a little demo in a brief before we board once on the quayside on how I secure my bike, a Pan European but it's up to each individual to be happy with the way they secure their own bike. I'm hoping/expecting everyone to help everyone else out securing their bikes and not to let anyone struggle with the straps.
i've got you and Gerard staying at the loft so you've already paid a £30 deposit towards your digs.
See you Friday,
JB

Hi Neil...

You'll need to take an EHIC too (I think) - European Health Card

It replaces the E111 - ask at the post office for a form - you can do it online too but won't get the card in time now - but once you register all you need to carry with you is their emergency number and your national insurance number. I'm not entirely sure how it works but its all to do with emergency medical care as a UK NI payer....

I'm sure the more seasoned travellers among us will know what it's for but I was advised to get one and so was my daughter when she booked a holiday.

See you Friday!

Well, the sun's shining and the top box is packed (and unpacked, and repacked, and repacked again! ) travel docs checked, and rechecked, and checked again! I'm sooo excited! (can you tell?) :D

Can't wait to see everyone again, plus have a great holiday together. :o)) Safe travels to J15a everyone - and to those meeting up at Portsmouth too!

(can't help humming the French national anthem.... bizarre!)

Now... where IS that phrasebook.... :?:

Hopefully you should have good weather. I was there two weeks ago and the roads are great, very little traffic except near the largest towns/citys. Watch the speeds when entering small towns though, the Jean Claudes have a kind of toll system which can be expensive ;o) .

Have a good, enjoyable and safe trip everyone, I look forward to seeing some pictures.

BONJOUR from sunny Arromanches! :o)) :o))

We all arrived safe and sound and without incident. It's lovely here and we're all dead tired having had very little sleep last night on the ferry.

We've seen loads already and are going to be congregating pour une bierre (or perhaps deux / trois!) hee hee 8)

Great ride here and only a smattering of liquid sunshine thus far whilst at Pegasus Bridge.

JB is incredibly knowledgeable about it all and we were very happy to tuck into our highly recommended Croque Monsieur's this morning at Honfleur harbour.

Anyway - not going to say any more as am sure there will be a mega write up after we all get home...

Suffice it to say... we're all having a bonne vacance!! (apologies for spelling mistakes!)

Au revoir!! :o)) :o)) :o))

Sounds great Jennie. I haven't been to Arromanches for a while, but it was very humbling every time I did. It's a beautiful place and it's difficult to imagine the human suffering that took place there. I first went there with my dad in the early 70s, he hadn't been back since June 6th 1944 so it was quite an experience.

Have an enjoyable hoiday!

Well, home now and still grinning like a cheshire cat. :o)) :o)) :o))

What a fantastic trip - will let others share about it all but I will just say that hats off to JB for superb rides out and very impressive (and unenviable!!) organising.. also to Paul for getting the accommodation sorted - it was spot on. I think between them they managed to do the impossible - pleased all of the people, all of the time!

Also - it was really ace to meet and get to know Neil, Gavin and Gerard. Looking forward to seeing you all again sometime soon guys!

My biggest personal thanks though to Chris TR for putting up with me on the back of his bike for the last 5 days! (If ever there were a test of character.... )

I'll never forget this trip as long as I live - it was absolutely brilliant! With a 1gb memory card full to capacity of pics and videos I know I shall relish looking at over and over again.

Superb trip, superb company, wonderful wonderful time.

To all on the Normandy 2008 - Double entendre (Helmets on Parade) Tour

It has all been summed up very well by others, but I must add my personal thanks to John and Paul, for making sure that everything went safely and according to plan, for shepherding the rideouts without a word of complaint and for making the trip thoroughly enjoyable for everyone, no matter what their experience or ability and to everyone else, just for being great company.

I cant remember the last time I enjoyed a trip so much and feel that I have made a whole lot of new friends. Am very much looking forward to meeting you all again at the National which Di and I will definitely be attending.

Sorry if I didn’t get to say cheerio to everyone last night, but I hope that you all had a safe ride home and if any of you are anywhere near Northampton and would like a cuppa, please just call, I have sent you my number.

Best regards, Alan
