Universal bike stand by Bikertidy

Postby 2 Strokes on Mon Mar 16, 2009 10:48 pm

Fed up with having having my heart in my mouth every time I want to put the NS on a paddock stand, I've invested in one of these.

It's a doddle to use. All you do is wheel the bike into the frame. There's a cup to catch the wheel, which then pivots to lock the wheel in the frame. There are mounting holes drilled for anchoring it to the floor, or even the back of a van or trailer. It also has a loop to accept a chain lock. It's well made and the powder coating is good quality.

It works forwards

or backwards

It's pretty easy to get out too. Just pull on the bars, the cup pivots and the wheel pops out.

My first concern was what happens if the bike sits at an angle, especially at the front, as this would put excessive strain through the wheel rim. But it doesn't. It just sits there straight.

Even if the bike does go in at a bit of an angle, it's easy to straighten it up. Then it just sits there.

It works for my TDR and my 9R as well, and takes up less space than a paddock stand, so I reckon it's a top bit of kit.

It's made by a company called Bikertidy, who are local to me here in Northants.

Well worth a look!

Now forgive me for being cynicle, I feel sure you will have to put bike on paddock stand to lube chain etc, so, what have you gained :o? or do you plan to sell P/stand & only use this device. :o? :o?
If Carlsberg make one I want mine shaved.

I have 2 toys, one is my bike, the other smells of fish

Your observation is correct. I do use it in conjunction with a paddock stand for chain lubing etc

The major gain is that it's much easier to use than a paddock stand. The NS in particular has nothing to grab hold of to keep it up right while you're trying to get it on the paddock stand. It's a nightmare, and I've had more than a few near misses. Given that NS bodywork is made of pure unobtainium, it's next to impossible to replace.

Once the front wheel is parked in the bike stand, it's much easier to get it onto a paddock stand, as it's already stood upright. All you need to do is lift the back wheel.

The bike also takes up less floor space as there's nothing protruding like the handle of a paddock stand does It's also more adaptable, as you can't bolt a paddock stand on to a trailer or in the back of a van. Well, you can, but it wouldn't be much use. :o)

I have a single sided paddock stand for the NC30 which is an absolute breeze to use. It is very easy to plug into the rear axle while the bike is on it's side stand. Once lifted I can run the bike up to the red line in 6th gear without a worry. It's also easy to lift the front end with a paddock stand once the back is in the air. I also have an Abba stand which lifts on the swing arm pivot. Good idea but the bikes aren't terribly stable on it, could do with going over centre a bit more (if you know what I mean).

These are brilliant. I don't have this model but 2 similar in my Renault Trafic van for shifting me bikes. Makes getting them in the van much easier and removes the need to strain the front forks with tie downs. Great stuff indeed!

Saw these at the BMF last weekend, quite impressed. One point the company will give HOC members discount, and the owner is a HOC member!!

I don't have a van, but I do use a trailer.

Phil at Bikertidy kindly offered to weld a couple of plates to my trailer, so now I can bolt my Universal Bikestand (shameless plug :o) ) directly to the trailer. It's now an absolute doddle loading and transporting my bikes, and I only need one set of straps over the handlebars, rather than the 3 or 4 sets I had been using.

I had been concerned that the front wheel might stick on the front of the stand due to the tension of the straps, making it difficult to unload. But no, I was wrong. Even the ZX9R is easily loaded and unloaded.

I'm well chuffed with mine :o) 8)

I have one of these as well. It is excellent but the difficulty I have is that I am a bit short and with my CB1300, it was extremely difficuly getting it OFF the stand. You have to lift up as you pull back and, since the stand was not locked down, it just moved back with me.

I ended up getting a centre stand for the bike.

I've seen a Gold Wing parked in one. So a V should be OK

Morning Alan.

Yes, I guessed Phil would make sure his Wing fitted. :o))

I've just been out to the garage and measured them both and the Valk tyre is not actually that much wider than the Wing. 140mm as against 125mm. That surprised me because it looks much bigger than that.

My concern was that the Valk front, being more of a flotation doughnut type shape, rather than tyre shape, whether it would sit properly in the V.

I guess there's only one way to find out, and that's to try one. :o))

If you're over this way, you could try mine. I'm only down the hill from the 10 O'clock.

Send me a pm if you would like to arrange something.
