Scott Oilers Again

Postby Dibble on Tue Nov 07, 2006 11:55 am

I know that on previous forums we have thrashed about these long and hard. I am still a convert and think they are a brilliant idea.

At Work I am currently road testing their off road set up which has yet to hit the market and it is a generally very good bit of kit. It is handle bar mounted and you pump as much or as little oil on the chain as you want and it does not go anywhere near to engine parts. They have made a derivative of the system that also fits pushbikes.
They appreciate getting real feedback from customers. Often rewarding such feedback with discounts and other incentives. One such thing is the result that Kevin at Three Shires branch got. He fed back a problem over feed rate they have requested he send the kit back to them and if they cant fix it they will replace it and issue new warranty all at their expense.

I have now taken delivery of the latest addition to the range which they call the slipper block and it may well cure the fling off problem that many criticise. I will be fitting one to the road bike and one to the works off road bike and see how it goes. The concept is really simple and spreads the oil all around the chain not just the initial injector side. It wraps around the chain on a flexible support. This helps remove grit etc that forms the grinding compound which wera the chain and sprockets.

I will let you know more as time goes on.

Please keep me posted

I had a scott oiler fitted to my old transalp, and yes the oil did tend to end up everywhere but on the chain
it also seemed to block up now and then and had to blow the oilout. I just couldn't seem to get the flow right.

But with buying the CBR1000F tomorrow I'm intent on keeping it in as good condition as possible, so if they have improved things I would look into getting one again.

For that matter if anyone has any handy tips on caring for my machine as I'm a year round rider please let me know all help gratefully recieved :D

Caring - all I do is make sure it gets cleaned after every ride. That seems to sort it out.

I use mine all year around and there are various products which give protection and help against the evils of salt etc. Yes washing it down is great but if like me you are working long shifts often into the early hours coming home and washing the bike down before bed is not an option. Then by the time you want to get out again the wether hits and washing again is not an option. So the best idea is to protect as best possible between washing opertunities.

Winta Wax from Motohaus is brilliant but can look messy it does work though.

Scottoils FS365 is easy to apply but you do have to use it a lot which can be expensive in the long run.

Good old WD40 is a favourite with some but not on the brakes of course!

Ditto Scotoiler F365, I have used it for years and buy it in the 5 litre cans, you cant beat it and there is always time for a quick squirt round before you put the bike away.

WD40 is a cracking product too especially around your electrics, I dont rate it much as a lubricant, but as a weatherproofer its great.

I always use a Scotoiler on a bike with a chain and have never had problems with fling-off as long as it is properly adjusted, also use the dual injectors. Scotoiler have excellent Customer service.
