What's the best engine oil for a Blackbird?

Postby Cbrhoops on Fri Jan 15, 2010 4:05 am

I've recently bought an 07 Blackbird and would like to know what is the best oil to use for it?

10W/40 semi synthetic is what your bike needs.
Any motor oil will do the job. You can go for bike specific, but to be honest (in my experience) this is no better and much more expensive .

DO NOT use Catrol Magnatec!
The friction modifiers in it can knacker your clutch!

Take a look at the Oilman in the Trader Information section.

All of the dealers I have used have always put fully synthetic in and I've never had any problems over 3 birds and 12 years! (Doesn't stop them falling over though ;o) )

Fully synthetic wont cause any problems on a modern engine - will may make a high mileage engine rattle like crazy however.
It's the friction modifiers in Magnatec that can cause problems. 10W/40Magnatec is semi synthetic.

Your Blackbird can happily run on fully synth, but the substantial extra expense (every 4000 miles) will not give you any advantage.

I have been using Morris 10/40W semi (car spec) in my VFR750 for the last 12 years and have had no problems. Not even when there is 32 stone on board- (two fat bastards on tour)-there is no clutch slip.
If you can't remember it...then it didn't happen
