Taking wheels out and putting them back in is serious.
So, as you are an aircraft maintenance engineer, you will understand that safety-related items should always come first. Did you learn your trade on an internet forum? We are just trying to point this guy in the right direction for his own sake.

Most people that post in forums have a bit of know how and are looking for tips and advice to do their own work. Those that don't just take it to a shop to get done. I understand the importance of safety when it comes to maintenance, (which is why I don't let knuckle draggers in bike shops touch my machine). So if I can help someone else avoid a mishap, I will. I think at the end of the day we are all arguing the same point but from different angles. Therefore...

1. Get a manual
2. Read it and research task.
3. Double check and check it again before, during and after a task.

There is a lot of design features from the manufacturers which prevent incorrect installtions. HOWEVER there are still ways of getting it wrong.
I have heard of people trying to fit a propeller to an aircraft back to front. So regardless of your level of experience errors can occur.

That's really what I was saying! ;o) As they say, a little knowledge can be dangerous............

We all know mistakes happen, and it's usually by people who know how to do it properly. (we've all done it sometime.....).

BTW, I do get out on the bike, but only after after making sure my nuts are good and tight! :o))

There are clearly many users who come on this site who don't know what they are doing, therefore it is important to make sure that the correct information is past on to them even if it seams over the top to some users.

No comments from the OP yet. Have you bought a manual and got the wheels out yet, and more to the point, have you managed to put them back in correctly?
Some feedback would be appreciated, as despite our comments, we are trying to help you!

This thread was about removing wheels, not fitting a stand!

BTW, it's not a particularly difficult job, so it shouldn't be too expensive labour-wise, but the stand itself won't be cheap!
(Unless of course, you already have one to fit..........)

taking wheels off is do-able! and i've done it myself :o))

it helps too, if you have your own air compressior and air-gun, that'll make un-doing nuts very easy...lol
(and i'm female and 27!)

i took my scoot's rear wheel off, so i could take it to the bike shop to let them fit a new tyre (as i dont have a mech tyre putter on'er)

here's a great video showing you how to take a motorbike's wheel off and other handy motorbike un-doing vids.

hope this helps :)
The time has come for me to sell my Honda Fes Pantheon 125, as I no longer need him, Please click the link for more info thanks. http://nottingham.gumtree.com/nottingham/51/52053651.html

It's not the taking off the wheel that is the problem, it's the putting it back correctly than many seem to have difficulty with.

Are air tools really necessary for DIY-ers just to remove wheels? A breaker bar makes it very easy and takes up a lot less space...........
