Someone’s backed in to My VFR

Any hints on looking after your bikes

Someone’s backed in to My VFR

Postby Johnny-Boy on Wed Jul 01, 2009 9:09 am

Well I came out of the post office in Gunness yesterday to find a guy standing by my VFR750fr asking if it was my bike. I was puzzled :?: because I didn’t recall over taking and blowing the windows in of the Picasso parked in front of me (well not recently  ). The guy apologised and confessed he’d just backed into the bike, :o0 which was still on the side stand.

We had a look around the bike and I could see where his car had made contact with the front tyre and the mark on the tarmac from the stand showed it had pushed the bike back around 12-inches. At the time the steering lock was on with the wheel pointing to the kerb.

The bike was out of gear which I think has save the bike a bit by letting it roll back. The bike seems to ride okay :o) and when I ride in a straight line, the top yoke lines up with the oil cooler and instrument bezel. I can’t see any damage to the forks in fact the only damage I can see is a very slight bow in the side stand caused by it scraping along the tarmac.

Can anyone think of anything else that might have been damaged?

Or have I got away really LUCKY 8)

Hi JB hope you are well?

I think you have been lucky. The fact the bike didn't fall over and was just pushed along absorbing the force rather than hitting the deck has saved some expensive repairs. If it just boils down to the side stand requiring replacement then the driver's got pretty lucky as well. I think all will be well simply because it moved and stayed upright.

Hiya Chimpy, I'm okay apart from Wendy's got me on a diet AGAIN.

The guy who backed into me is a pub landlord so I might just sneak down there when Wendy's not looking  and get a free pint off him.

Good to see you're still on the forum ;o)
