Hi all, went to halfords and their petrol proof laquer is only petrol resistant, so i paid a visit to a local paint supplier and was told the only petrol PROOF laquer is 2pack which they do in an aerosol but the downside to this is that it is highly toxic and therefor should only be used with a respirator. So given the cost and level of risk involved in useing 2pack and the unsure perfomance of the halfords laquer, i`v used hammerite and so far i`m very pleased with the results. I`m waiting for it to harden befor i apply the stripes (400N style like the pic on front cover of haynes manual). The quest goes on.

I've used the Halfords petrol resistant lacquer without any problems. If I spill any petrol onto it, I immediately wipe it off and it doesn't mark.

In my experience hammerite does not last it chips flakes and peels within too short a period of time and if you what a professional glass like finish then you will be disapointed using hammerite.... and what makes you think that it is more petrol proof than Halfords ..... Chimpy is right if amy spillage is wiped up straight away then a petrol resistant paint is good enough.
