My Baby Varadero

Postby Deaks on Mon May 04, 2009 8:36 pm

Just got into biking, and, with my sensible hat firmly in place, decided to get a 125 to build my experiance. So after a long, LONG decision process, discounting the Yamaha R125, the old CG125 and the new CBF125, I bought a 2004 Varadero 125.

And so far (2 Months in) I have not a single regret. Yes it's slow but its' tall, comfy, resonable fun and along with a 200mile per week commute, i can still do 220 miles for a meet and not notice. And, although you can all laugh if you like, got my first foot scrape yesterday then followed it up with a second. I felt rather pleased with myself :o))

Why should we laugh? They're a cracking machine, comfortable and have big bike feel. Okay, it may not be the fastest 125 out there, but speed isn't everything and it certainley shouldn't be the factor which makes anyone choose a particular model.

Glad you're enjoying it, that's pretty important to me.

Regards

Chimpy
You hum it son, I'll play it!

Yeah I agree Chimpy, in fact the fun factor is half the reason I got into biking. It's nice to be able to beat the bike mercilessly and it just shrug at me, especially just travelling along with my mate who introduced me to biking, he's on a NT700 Deauville so I have to work SOOO hard just to keep up, good fun. :o))

Was sat next to a Big Vara a couple weekends back, it looks quite monstrous compared to it's baby brother lol

Hi Deaks and welcome on board !

Your "baby" looks like the right size beginner´s bike for myself - and I would go for it if I could afford it. But being a pillion on a CB 750 KZ for the last year and previous to that on a CX 500 B
I have been bitten by the bug some time ago and would loooooove to have a go myself.
So there´s certainly no reason at all to be ashamed, it´s a nice little pony.
For me the fun on the bike is much more important than speed , and safety comes first !
Enjoy your baby and join us on one of the rideouts !

Oh I'm not ashamed, in fact I love it. Despite the fact its totally futile I enjoy chasing my mate on his Deauville.

The flaw of the bike is the price. I got mine at a steal, £1500 with 6k on the clock, and that is a lot for a 125. Its pretty tall, 802mm seat height. Plenty of 125 singles will match it for pace, but it can carry two blokes and is damn comfy. Without my 'L' plates on it, it's hard to beleive its a 125. Even with the 'L's I get people asking if it is actually a 125.

The only other thing, is even the '09 doesn't have a fuel guage. They revised it in '07 and that got a light to show you're on reserve fuel. Even old CG125's had fuel guages :x !!

Ok I'll stop being an advert for it :o)) .

As my youngest bike will be 28 in August I have very little knowledge of these so called "fuel gauges" I have however heard about them and they are supposed to prevent riders from running the tank empty (because they left the fuel tap on reserve setting) and having to push the bike to the next filling station.

Sounds like they are taking all the fun out of being a biker  :P

Hi, Theres nothing wrong with this bike I started on this bike and loved every minute of it (mind you only kept it a few months) It gives the big bike feel but with 125 fuel figures amazing. I'll look out for you on the south birmingham roads.
