Bike Swap?

Postby Barry on Thu May 28, 2009 5:24 am

I have a 2003 Silver, Transalp 650, some 7500 miles, in very nice condition, runs well, no problems. Engine bars, Gvi pannier rack and Baglux tank harness, I will put a new battery on it.. It is sitting in my daughters garage on a SORN. It was replaced by a new Varadero with lowered suspension.

I fitted a lower seat from David Silver, but the bike is really just that bit too tall for me - I have no problem is touching the ground once I am on the bike - but I do have a problem in getting my leg over! They do not make a lowering kit for the 2003 TA.

With the recent improvement in the weather, I have been using the Varadero locally, to run into town. But it is really too much of a bike to heave out of the garage then park on the pavement whilst I pop into the shops. I need a local runabout. Something light, perhaps even a scooter - not a 50cc suppository!

I suppose I could take the bike down to my local Honda dealer and buy one of their large wheel scooters, then I thought, someone may like to do a swap? So as they used to say in Exchange & Mart - WHY?

I'm a bit lost Barry, are you talking about swapping the Transalp or the Varadero?

If I have read and understood the post correctly you want to swap your "Transalp" for a little runabout as using the Varadero for this perpose is too much hassle but want to keep that one for longer rideouts....correct?

Correct :o))

I have in mind a little 250/350cc - age is irrelevant as long as it is in good condition with a maximum of 800mm seat height ;o)

Well that's what I thought but Barry's sudden change of topic left me wondering?

Barry you definitely need a 50cc twist and go with a baked bean can for an exhaust and the obligatory blue LEDs everywhere. Also wear a hooded jacket and rest your crash helmet on the back of your head when parked on the pavement ;o)

'Chimpy' are you trying to get me 'put away'? My contemporary friends, some of my family and my doctor already have some serious misgivings about me being a biker. My doctor gave me quite a talking too   [smilie=a_listenuppunks.gif] [smilie=huh.gif] when I told him I would like his OK before I booked my trip to Turkey for the Varadero meeting.

Lets get this straight!

I am keeping my Varadero for longer trips. I would consider swapping my Transalp 650 for a smaller lighter bike/scooter with a lower saddle height than 800mm, as a local runabout.

It is a good thought, but they are a little higher than I need - for a local easy on/off runabout.
If you are going to move on from your 125, I can reccommend the TA for a solo rider - a more user friendly bike than the big Varadero and cheaper to run.
The Varadero is a much better bike with a pillion passenger. :o)
