Oxford Blade

Postby gazzaRR7 on Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:41 pm

Hi all,
i recently started to ride out with the Oxford branch going to Jacks Cafe and Newlands Corner. Nice ppl, and they made me feel very welcome. I've been riding for a few years now, since 17. Starting with an RD50M, great bike for 33mph downhill..then an XL100. RS250, RD350LC the obligatory hooligan bike of the era,and was involved on a regular basis with Star Rider training on a sunday morning,( remember that? ) then family life got in the way, so i had to make do with the occasional ride on my mates CB750 that he restored.........
However it wasnt enough, so i got back in the saddle with a Triumph 955ST, awesome bike with thick saddle, heated grips and a screen that i could hide behind. But it just didnt have the wow factor i was looking for.......so along came a Repsol RR7 that i just fell for as soon as i saw it ( in a manly way of course!) ;o)
I've had it for nearly a year now, and apart from the odd aching wrist, numb backside and occasional buttock clenching moment when i see one of those nasty yellow things on a pole, its all i could want in a bike.......for now. :o))
Theres a test day soon and i'll be trying a Pan, and the naked CB1000r.
Regards
Gazza

Hi Gazza, welcome to the forum!

I will be seeing you soon, then! I'm down for testing several bikes (slight mistake in the schedule, though I'm sure it'll be sorted out OK). You won't know me, but I've met one or two of the Oxford crowd, that's why I'm going to the test ride day.

Riding for a few years now, have you? An 'Elsie' suggests it's a bit more than 'a few'! Me? I've been riding for over 30 years........

It was a fantastic Test Ride day, courtesy of Abingdon Honda, and Erica. Loads of bikes ranging from a 125 to two types of 1300, and most were being tried out each ride out. Police escort (on a BM) but we all had a little trouble keeping up with him! Naughty speeds were reached on the test ride route in one or two other places (some being very naughty speeds!) . That 125 was so thrashed.......I got it up to 85 on the clock (on a private stretch of road, naturally) ;o) .
Great to meet a few more members from Oxford/Reading.
Many thanks to Erica for organising it, and supplying the cake. Delicious!

Yes, thanx to Erica the day went very well. Was the private stretch of road the A34 by any chance? :o)) I think i hit 71mph briefly on the new blade..................but then decided to speed up again!!!

Strange, the CBF1000S (yes, the 'soft' thousand) has a speedo which reads excessively high at 155mph at a true 70mph. :o?
At least, I was assured by our 'escort' that we never once went over 70mph on the A34 ;o). The speedos on the other bikes I tried must have been slightly more accurate!

So glad you enjoyed the day - everyone certainly seemed to have fun, including me even though it was busy! :o)) Pictures will soon be on the Oxford web site so you can see those bikes with the oh so inccurate speedo's!!! :o? Abingdon Honda always do us proud and I have my pick of the bunch from the demo's for a day when I take my VFR in for a service later this week.

Erica, the Oxford website says the pictures are on there, but the pictures are repeated from the Lulworth Cove trip. I've emailed the Oxford webmaster anyway.

Edit: webmaster has now corrected it. Photos are now on website.
