10,000 km's and the tyres still have about 70% wear remaining. I am 100% satisfied with Pilot Rd 2. :o))

Now at 10,000 miles. Plenty of grip and tread remaining. 40% on the centre of the rear tyre and about 55% on the front.

I think I may have to look at changing my tyres when they need it I use Avons and although I like the roadholding and handling they dont last anywhere near these figures :|

I commute 87kms one way to work. 65miles? 4 days on 5 days off and a beautiful coast road to travel on. If you use google earth, look up Sydney airport Australia and Dapto, Wollongong. That is the journey I do. There is a freeway but I take the coastal road most of the time. I am about to go on a ride today which is a pleasure ride not a work ride. While you are on Google look up The Putty Rd NSW. That is the ride I will be doing. 5 other bikes are going. I am the only Honda rider. It is all leisure to me it is only the destination which puts a downer on things.

Replaced back tyre today. I got another Pilot Road 2 from Michelin. 24,000 kms or 15,000 miles (depending on the date of your manufacture.) with a plug in it. I got the puncture 70miles in. Hopefully I will have better luck this time. I am very impressed with the Michelin tyre.
Getting the front done in a week. Same figures as the rear though. (with about 500miles more.).

The Bird is due new boots this payday, have always used BT020's but given the glowing recommendations, I am strongly tempted to try the pilots this time.

Anyone moved from 020's to the Pilots?

yes I have recently made the switch on my ST1300A3

Only done around 1K miles on them so far but they have worn more than the BT020's
I'll just clarify that, when I say worn more it's as in lateraly as opposed to radially, or in plain english, less chicken strip

I must say I am very impressed with these tyres, I found cornering a breeze as soon as they were fitted and having thought about it I believe this is due to a rounder profile on the RP2's making it much less effot to counter steer a heavy Pan into the corners, I think this also accounts for the larger wear profile as I am leaning the bike over more than on the BT020's

I feel that I get a better response from the RP2's, it's a funny thing, they seemed more skitish at first and I thought "Woah, have I made a big mistake here!!" but it's as was mentioned earlier that they give better feedback than the BT020's did and I wasn't used to it, but now it's great

They really do have much better grip in the wet over the BT's and I think even over themselfs in the dry which is bizarre

A good indication of my confidence in the RP2's is my road home from work, there is a 1 1/2 mile downhill twisty in to a village which has a sharp right then left in the center of it (small village, blink and you miss it), on the BT's I'd come down the hill at around 60, braking slightly for the sharpest bend in it then come through Chelveston at around 20ish. On the RP2's I start the descend at 80 and no brakes till the village, just gently backing off the throttle on the way down but not going less than 70 and I do the village on the speed limit of 30

With tyres it's always going to be a personal thing (like Marmite) but I would say give the RP2's a try, after all, you can always go back to your old type next time, or sooner if you wish ;o)

More wear towards the chicken strip shows that you are leaning the bike more which means you are going faster and you have more confidence. This is a good thing. My riding mates have just switched to the Pilot road 2's and they have noticea considerable increase in performance. (handling mainly)
I like the grip in the wet and the durability of the tyre. I am on my second pair.

OK! Sold!
Now where is the best place to get them in Northampton? I usually take the bike to Notorcycle world (ex Avonvale) but I dont think they fit them there, any suggestions?

Thanks, Al

I use Nick from Daventry

http://njwmotorcycletyres.co.uk/

cost's slightly more on labour but is keen on tyre prices plus he comes to you and he treats the bike like it's his own
(No YTS trainee being given your wheels to practice on !!)

Worth giving him a bell for a quote, tell him Alan sent you ;o)
