VFR750F (1996) Fuel Tank Low level Indication Light.

Postby Dave1979m on Sun Dec 07, 2008 11:28 pm

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience on the low fuel level warning lights on these machines. My gauge works properly but I am not sure about the warning light. When I turn the ignition to on the light illuminates until the needle on the gauge gets up a little then it goes out. I have run the bike to what I thought was almost empty (needle was below the E) and the light still hasn't come on. Any suggestions???

I have the 97 FV. Light comes on at start just the same. After about 170-180 miles of normal commuting it comes on again telling me there is about 2-4 litres of fuel which should get you to the next fuel station. On a really good run out have had over 200 miles without it coming on.

You should notice it is a gradual increase of brightness when it first comes on and varies with braking and acceleration. Then it becomes steady light -----Fill Up!

Ok. The VFR has a 21 litre tank capacity. This gives me a 350km range typically. However, after doing 350km and I fill up I put 18-19 L of fuel. But no warning light. Dim or bright. I know the sensor is a capacitor type and I think it might be "dried up". Maybe the gauge needle reads a lot lower than the light. The manual gives some testing procedures of the sensor but It gets a bit involved. I might carry that out the next time I have the tank off.
Call me crazy but I just like everything to work.

The sensor which controls the light is stuffed. The whole unit is $140AUD which is about 95pounds. So I guess I will leave it alone. I had the tank off and emptied it completely, still no light. Nevermind.
