Bikesafe

Postby jamie cb750 on Sun Jul 08, 2007 8:39 am

i wish we could have something more like this in oxfordshire but i cannot find anything   , riding the zxr has brought the youth out of me but ive realised i just havent got the experience for cornering sportsbikes and now being branded captain slow , in which i am rather proud as it also means captain sensible , but i would like the confidence if i wanted to have a play

Have a look here http://www.bikesafe.co.uk/ and see if there is a county near you that may do what you want

:D Jamie - try the Thames Vale IAM who meet at Winnersh on the 3rd Sunday of each month (they have an open day on the 15th of July) They offer training courses with a local person in your area - think it costs around £85.00 - and also days called something like 'lean and learn' where you learn how to get the best out of your bike. They are an excellent bunch of folk and several of the Oxford Branch have/are doing the course.

Hi Folks.. long time no see..
did the bikesafe course on my Hayabusa and WOW! what great fun... I ended up with a right sound cop for a ride out to down to Banbury from Tally Ho (Cops Birmingham base in south Brum) if I told you that he was right on my tail as we we sweeping along fast A roads (typical average speed 90mph plus at times) would you believe me? I hope so because its the truth.. at one point on a double car overtake I well outgunned him (he was on a 1200cc BMW) but for sure he soon caught me up after a couple of miles.. important tip - even if you have a Busa never attempt to get away from these guys.. they are the best. I Learned a lot over the weekend with them.. how to ride fast but safe, observing in advance the changes in the road, hazard skills etc.. I really fancy doing the advanced test now. Hats off to West Mids Police... wont mention my cop "buddy" by name.. but rest assured he wont be giving out ay speeding tickets if you get lucky enough to partner with him...
live each day as if it was your last.. (cuz one day it will be)

A few of my mates are doing Bikesafe with Merseyside Police in April, they are getting all excited about it as well, aww.
Bikesafe, is a very good idea for those who are actively looking to improve their riding technique, be it with positioning or just general tips on safer riding. The most important thing they will try and drum into people is 'Lift your Vision'
Never done bikesafe myself, but would recommend it to every motorcyclist.

We (Reading Branch) had a visit from Rick Parish of Surrey Bikesafe on Wednesday who gave us a very interesting presentation on the program. Suffice to say I think quite a few of us will signing up for a special Bikesafe HOC day in the not too distant future.

I have just completed the Cambridgeshire police bike-safe in Peterborough. Three Tuesday evenings of two hours each, then two hours the next Saturday or Sunday, £35.00, and again the best £35.00 spent.
