I clicked on the forum link in the main hoc web site and it tried to take me to "forum.hoc.org.uk" - what's that all about?

It's because it's easier to tell people http://www.forum.hoc.org.uk than the actual url.
It diverts to this url at the server.
The same goes for http://www.manchester.hoc.org.uk and http://www.cambridge.hoc.org.uk
