I have a 750FD that I'm about to fit the 900 Oil Cooler conversion to. Can I ask how you went about fitting braided oil lines to your bike please - did you somehow remove the standard lines from the end fittings and replace with the braided lines? How are the braided lines secured to the end fittings? Thanks.

When ever I want a part for my old '81 CM250T its like getting blood out of a stone! I seem to spend all my time waiting on back orders from Japan that never show up.

If it's no longer available from Honda, you could wait forever! When you order parts, are they listed as 'discontinued' ? If so, you may have difficulty getting them directly. If they are still listed as being available, and with a current price, you ought to get them........eventually. I seem to recall that Mr Honda said that parts would always be available for anything Honda has made, so no vehicle they made would ever be off the road. When he died, the Honda company changed it's policy to the 'ten year rule' (I think, like all other motor manufacturers) whereby they would make spares available for ten years after a model ceased production. If there is a great demand for a certain model, those parts soon disappear! Other parts get passed on to the likes of David Silver Spares, who's always worth a try. Even if not in stock, he claims he will try and obtain parts for customers. Most Honda dealers can't be bothered to chase up older stock lines, unless you are prepared to spend lots of money with them. (Or so I have found.)

I'm fairly fortunate and have a good relationship with my local dealer, being in the trade. If a part is still available they will get it for me. There may be no stock in the UK sometimes but they will get it in for me at the list price less my discount but without any extra shipping charges. I can normally pass on a bit of discount to my customers as well.

It always amazes me the way some people put things on Ebay with outrageous prices because they are "old stock" when you can still get the part direct from Honda.

Hello everyone. Time for an update. I finished the 900F rebuild with 3 weeks to spare, the plan was to run her in, get wed on the 21st June and then honeymoon on her for 2 weeks.

But that was not to be...

At approx 0715 on my wedding day, 21st June, whilst on the way to tesco's in Wisbech for a last cooked breakfast as a single man i hit a patch of diesel and the bike tossed me into the path of an oncoming JCB digger. I was only doing 30(ish) MPH and although the bike suffered suprisingly little damage i did not fair so well. I went under the front of the digger which then proceded to roll up on to my left hip. My pelvis was broken in 2 places and left hip smashed and i also have nerve damage (which is causing the most consternation).

I spent 10 days in Kings Lynn hospital before being transfered to the Norfolk and Norwich teaching hospital where a very nice man put me back together. I had an external fixator screwed into my hips which stayed for 3 months, like a steel cage around my belly and hips holding my pelvis together. The fixator came off 2 weeks ago and i finally came home last Friday, 4 months after leaving to have a fry up. I'm not at all mobile at the moment, i have a pair of sticks so i'm learning to walk again.

Needless to say the wedding never went ahead. The event has been rescheduled for the end of December.
I went to see the bike on Sunday for the first time and had Very mixed emotions. As mentined the damage is not to bad. She has a smashed engine case on the right side and the tach/odo set is beyond repair. Sticky out bits like indicators and levers are all shot to bits and the new paint on the left hand side don't look so new anymore...

I have decided i'm going to get the bike looking as good as it was before the accident but have yet to decide anything beyond that. One problem i have is that my left foot has nerve damage and i can't lift it up at the ankle or curl my toes up. I can see this being a problem when it comes time to change gear on the bike. Its early days yet and with a splint to keep my foot from flopping i may be able to lift the gear lever from the hip. I've also been looking at quick shifters that do the gear changinging for you, from a button on the handlebars. Has anyone any experience with these things.

This is about my first chance to sit at a terminal since the accident and i see a lot of posts that need replies to so my appols for being so tardy, i shall rattle off a few notes now.

You poor, unlucky bloke! But it sounds like it could have been a lot lot worse! Pretty tragic for you and your missus-to-be though. Wondered where you'd been since June!
Hope you recover fully in the end, but it sounds like it may take a while.
The bike is only metal and plastic, and you can always get new parts or repair it. Your body's not quite the same, is it?

Have you contacted any disabled motorcycle clubs about the handlebar changer? Hopefully you won't need it long term.

Really sorry to here of your terrible off. As has been already said the bike can be fixed relatively easily, the human body is sometimes less forgiving.

Greetings people..
..A swift note by way of an update.

The bike is almost ready for the road once again. Once I started stripping broken bits off her it became apparant that there was more damage than the first few surveys suggested. Most of the painted bits are away being redone and what chrome that needed redoing is back and ready to refit.
I'm having trouble locating a speedo / tach set that actually works so may have to run without a working rev counter until I can get to the BMF jumble in May. I eventually tracked down a RHS clip-on bar of the correct size, that had to come from Canada and has now been powder-coated and fitted along with a new switch and throttle assy. Both foot pegs on the RHS were buggered (to use a technical term) and new ones were sourced off eBay. Both were then rechromed and coated as needed.

My broken body has healed quite well and I'm finally back to work on the 12th of Jan. Its been a long and at times rather difficult past 7 months but I'm now itching to get back in the saddle and finally use my new bike. I intend to do a whole lot of miles over the coming months as I feel I have time to make up and also a point to prove so if you see a rather gorgeous looking '82 CB900F in silver and blue fettle at any events this year, please, please come over and say HI!..

ps. I finally managed to get married on new years eve

pps. Does anyone have one of these rev counter thingys plz?

May I first wish you and your wife congratulations on your marriage and hope you have many years of happiness together.

I have a rev counter and speedo somewhere in the workshop. One of them has lost its needle and one has a cracked lens but I can't remember which. You are welcome to them if you can make anything from them for the cost of the postage? I'll have a look next time I'm down there if you like, probably be the weekend.

Chimpy, thank you V much for the kind wishes. It's taken 7 months longer than I had planned but I finally made an honest woman of her.

As for the rev counter hiding in your w/shop, yes please, if you have anything useful that you are willing to part with. All I really need to complete a working set is the "clockwork" part inside the tach housing, and perhaps a needle from either a tach or an odo.
If you get a result you can PM me and we can sort something out.
