If it is not, you face the possibility of your message being deleted straight away. We have been nice up till now and given potential HOC members a grace period.

Just wondering why only the one of the for sale/wanted was challenged. From the posts all advertisers joined that day or day before.

Who is actuallly checking that "for sale" advert posters are actually members? It could be there quite a while if the moderators don't see it or check it out.

Stritchy and I will be checking occasionally. We will give the authors a chance to redeem themselves in case they forgot to post their membership number.

Discussion:

For the future, do we want to limit to items owned by HOC members, or can they advertise other items.

I'm open to suggestions. So, who has opinions on this?

I feel an HOC member advertising items for sale in the "For sale and wanted" section which are not owned by themselves should be allowed, as at least there is an HOC member involved.
I still feel the 'ban' on non-HOC members advertising should still stand though. Otherwise it could (and would) become a free-ads trading post for everyone and anyone wishing to flog their wares (as we've seen with mobile phones).

Sorry Red, I disagree.
It will leave the Forum open to members posting items for friends, who are not members, which will subvert the spirit if not the letter of the rules.

We could make the proviso that if, as in Dibble's case, an ex-member or member of the general public contact the Club we could post it.
However, this would have to be with the prior consent of the Moderator.

This could get interesting. So, if we disallow the posting of friends bikes, the member could (and I'm not saying they would) say it was theirs. So, are we promoting the potential of dishonesty?

Prior concent of the moderator? Far too much intervention for my liking.

So, how about allowing posting of friends stuff - but it has to explicitly say who is actually selling the kit.

But then we might as well make it open to non-members :(

But look how many non-HOC members register on the forum, and their first (and only) post is an advert for something to sell ! They don't join the forum for any other reason.
Most HOC members who place an ad have already been forum members for some time and made many posts on other varied subjects. I expect anything they might put up for sale for a friend is a genuine offer by the HOC member to advertise it for them, with the hope of it going to a good home. It may also be the only place it is offered for sale.
Many non-HOC advertisers have mentioned that the item is already on ebay, with a link to it, (and it's probably in Trade It, in which it is free to advertise too) but not MCN as that's very expensive. They are just hoping to make a sale, and are not in the least bit bothered if the item goes to a good home, or even interested in the HOC.

I do believe the ability to sell on this forum should be a benefit of being a member of the HOC. On many forums I've seen people register to just post a for sale advert and never return. I have no problems with ex members who have fallen on hard times or forced to give up riding having there items sold here however it does need to be co-ordinated correctly IMO. I would like to think that we could find a solution to this that is agreeable to all.
