Talk about a party-stopper and bursting my bubble of enthusiasm

Just joined "Karate World" in Gloucester this evening with my family. Actually my wife and kids have already been for their first lesson. Tonight was my first visit.

Got a great welcome and my Karate kit. 8) Put it on and entered the hall with my wife (feeling a little nervous etc. as I have not done any martial arts for over 25 years and the fact that I am a complete lump of lard!)

Started a vigorous warm-up routine, which really got me hot, sweaty and breathless, but feeling really good about myself - I was starting down the road to achieving something with my fitness and weight.

Hit "the wall" about 5 mins into it, but got second wind quite quickly :) But then it all went wrong :?

We started with some defence moves - so far so good - but then we had to do it while we hopped back then forwards quickly. And thats when it happened!!!! AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! my knee popped out as I put all my weight on my left leg.  I dropped to the mat like a sack of cement with a loud yelp clutching my knee. The instructor looking quite shocked ran over and helped my over to the chairs and gave me a pack of frozen peas to help with the swelling.

Damn! Did I feel foolish. I told my wife to carry on while I sat there as the pain eased and was slowly able to start moving my leg.

At the end of the class I was able to hobble back to the group of nOObs and pay my respects to the instructor etc..

So. That was my first day at Karate

Still, could've been worse.

We're going back tomorrow night to carry on and see if I can manage a few moves. But if not, then I'll sit and watch and soak up the atmosphere!

Thank god I didnt ride there on the bike this evening!!!

Hey, stick with it Humpy. You'll enjoy it when you get back into it.

My most embarrasing injury happened before the session even started

I can laugh now, but it was agony at the time, and I'll never run properly again, but sh*t happens :D
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.
