[smilie=a_peek.gif] 'ere... this darkened room's getting a bit busy!

Just another random thought or two whirled through my leetle grey cells....

... are Barry & Skipper related :?:

Double time? Isn't that something to do with rhythm .... [smilie=a_tunes.gif]

and umm... how can/why would one assume another person's working hours when there are so many shift patterns these days.... [smilie=a_huh.gif]

enough meanderings... back to the room I go... :tired

Interesting point, I sometimes take a look whilst having a quick drink of coffee - not being a smoker I am not allowed those '10 minute outside in the rain breaks' that 70% of my colleagues take at least three times a day - added up that totals 10 hours a month off for the smokers -about the number of hours unpaid overtime I do to catch up with the late evening calls I have to make to get hold of customers who haven't been in during the day! Its an odd working world!

( sorry I don't mean to sound grumpy - perhaps I should have stayed in that darkened room a bit longer...........but it was getting a bit crowded!)

Correct Erica.

So that's 120 hours per year, or three whole weeks, that those people steal from their employer.

Then they whinge about one single day every four years.

My definition of an employee is someone who has agreed to be used to add value to their employers business. Just being at work is not enough. The employee must add value. The more value they add to the business the more valuable they are to their employer.

I have employed people who regularly took the afternoon off to play golf. I had no problem with that because the overall value they added far exceeded the norm.

I must say that it is far easier to assess the value of someone in a sales or manufacturing position - the value of their contribution is easier to define..

For people in a management or clerical position - most computer users - it requires and in depth job description that includes targets and measures of performance across all aspects of their job - a proper assessment.

Many employees shy away from such assessment, saying that their jobs can't be measured. Many employers let them get away with it, not only because initially it does involve management in a lot of work, but mostly because it does put pressure upon management to create the conditions that allows an employee to work at maximum efficiency.

I have no time for 'time serving' employees who think that just turning up for work is enough. Give me a money grabbing individual willing to be used to their maximum potential who then surprises me by exceeding that potential.

It's gone very quiet in that dark room. Still stuffing yourselves with truffles or sleeping them off?
Anyway, Looks like the yes voters are clearly ahead. Are you all looking forward to enjoying the next round of Bank Holidays, (i.e. Easter). I suspect there's one who won't be. When you consider it though, if it wasn't for the Bank Holidays we wouldn't have the time off collectively for celebrating our religious festivals, when many can join in together and enjoy the vast and varied number of events often put on over these holiday periods. Without them, there would be less enterprise and fewer events as entrepreneurs would not take risks in funding events that gave them a small return as a result of fewer punters turning up in smaller numbers. Therefore Bank Holidays are good for business which would be even better if we could also have our leap year day off.

Ah no, the truffles are long gone (thank goodness - they are FAR too fattening!!)... here in the dark room we are keeping our heads down out of firing range...

Easter - well... you know what.... I love Easter not because it's time off work but because of why we have it, what it means and no... not the hike around Ikea (although I know that is a commonly held misconception that it is why Easter happens!)... that and that we must all gorge on choccie eggs until sick... anyhoo... where was I... oh yes...

Bank Holidays for religious festivals... yes.. very handy.. but you know what... even if we didn't have a Bank Holiday for Easter... it would still be a religious festival and would be celebrated nonetheless... and.. to play devil's advocate somewhat.... at a former employ of mine one of my colleagues had a faith belief system that meant he had a religious festival to celebrate and he took the time off as holiday.... interesting concept eh.... ;o)
