VFR1000 V5?

VFR1000 V5?

Postby Stritchy on Thu Aug 07, 2008 5:13 pm

MCN are saying that Honda will be producing a V5, shaftdrive, press-button gearchange VFR. :o0

Given their past record for accuracy and the terrible Photoshop'd image they are publishing, what's the chance that they're right?

You can read their article at http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/ ... sual-shoes and also see where they nicked the idea from http://www.vfritaliaclub.it/node/2046#comment-801

What d'ya think?

The comments on the MCN website suggest is it a figment of MCN's imagination.............

I can't really understand why they would make it shaft drive though. Shafts have been reserved tourers and cruisers in the past, yet the majority of VFR machines fall into the sports tourer category where the higher efficiency and lighter weight of a chain drive are important. The V5 road bike rumour has been going around since 2003 so we will just have to wait and see, but don't hold your breath.

Well, they have stopped manufacturing the current VFR & the current Blackbird so something has to replace them both. My bet is that Mr Honda will not be teasing us for nothing & so make sure you volunteer for duty at the NEC this year & get your first hand preview.............

Just had a thought, I hope that's not a controversial a statement...........just to clarify, there's nothing wrong with being blonde or a minion. I am a minion & if I had hair it would be blonde...

I thought the VFR was going to be produced 'till 2009 at least from what they said? :o? Don't believe a word that MCN say, although I do read it each week and would, as you say Ed, rather hear it from the 'horses mouth' at the NEC :P

To be fair though MCN have got it right in the past about new models etc look at the new Daytona and Street Triple for example, all were shown as computer images and lo & behold they appeared and not that far off the MCN's prediction too

So watch this space, but to be honest I won't be placing an order till at least a year or 2 after launch to see how it fares in real life with real life owners and after I have read the feedback about all the new tec stuff they may include on this all singing, all dancing model with such work of the devil as brake-by-wire :o0 :o0 etc sounds like a very expensive recipe for disaster  give me old fashioned brake pipes and master cylinders any day ;o)

But knowing the Japs they'll do lots of testing first before releasing any details

Does anyone here read Classic & Motorcycle Mechanics?

They have a monthly article called "Biking Lemons" which documents some of the worst bikes ever to emerge from Japan (mostly Japan given their overwhelming market presence in the 70's)

There is a long list of Jap bikes that were launched with serious design faults. Some people even bought them...
