New to this whole malarky

Postby kazza100 on Fri Jul 04, 2008 10:46 pm

First time on a forum and bought my first bike this week. Lots of research, lots of sitting on bikes and lo and behold i found the CBR600F the one for me!

Having never been on a bike before May this year the thought was a little terrifying to be honest but something i'd wanted to do since becoming single again a few years back (women can have slightly early mid life crises as well i suppose!) Once over the 'what the hell am i doing' stage whilst learning, found i love it. Yes - i did direct access and yes not everyone agrees with it as a learning method but hey it works for me. I don't intend riding like an idiot which at the end of the day is what matters. I'm learning, and how does the saying go? Women - know your limits!!

Had it just 4 days, didn't manage to get out on it today unfortunately. When not riding i like to go and just look at it - i'm sure the excitement will wear off eventually but hopefully not for a while. Daft i know!!! Next step is learning as much as i can about the bike, how to look after it properly, how to ride it better.

Hoping to find out what the local branch is doing - I'm near Northampton so any views on the local branch much appreciated.

Hi to all you out there - hope to meet a few of you soon!

Welcome to the forum Karen from me.

You're very lucky to be located close to one of the more active branches in the HOC, the "Northampton" lot who have a great biking and social calender.

They will be along soon to make you very welcome I'm sure.

Have fun but take it easy.

Regards

Chimpy

Hiya Karen and a huge :welcome from me (and the Northants lot too!)

I'm a member of your local branch and they are a great bunch. :o)) (if you can cope with the humour!!! [smilie=a_chuckle.gif]

Lots of activities and rides out - there is a run this Wednesday night I think - but I don't know the details I'm afraid - if you get in touch with our Sec Sue Beck she'll fill you in on all the gen!

Well done on your test and bike (I'm green with envy! [smilie=a_alien.gif] )... I don't think the novely will wear off at all  , I reckon you'll just love it more and more!

We have a few other ladies with bikes at our branch: Shaz, Ruth and Sue M. So you won't be alone on that score!

Who did you do your direct access with?

There's a pretty busy social calendar which (I think) is on the branch website ... hopefully this is the link to it....

http://northantshoc.myfreeforum.org/index.php

Stritchy (webmaster on here) is our Branch chairman and I'm sure he'll be along in due course uttering words of wisdom too...

Hope to get to see you at a branch night soon!

Once again - welcome and congratulations!! [smilie=a_bravo.gif]

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!

Shellshine, thanks for the link - I've just had a look at the forum for the northants and milton keynes group and am worried that i'll be holding people up and be the subject of a 'do i overtake or not' discussion  All these things to learn!

I did my direct access with the guys at Brackley Yamaha - and confession time i failed the first test on a u-turn! (4 out of 6 did the same that day). I switched to do my re-test purely so i could do it earlier, otherwise i'd still be waiting to do it now. So hooked up with a guy towards Milton Keynes.

Will definitely get onto Sue at the branch- i'll be the one pottering along i'm sure!!

Cheers

Hi Karen

Don't worry about holding anyone up - you will be made to feel very welcome indeed I'm sure. As for the test thing - who cares! You passed now and that's what matters most :o))

Nowt wrong with pottering along either Karen :o)) If worried about going on a run to begin with then why not come over on an 'ordinary' evening where we just meet up and have a natter?

Let me know when you plan on going (drop me an email if you want) and if I can I'll come along and say hiya. (I don't go to the run out evenings unless I can blag me a pillion ride..)

Hope to see you sometime soon. :o))

Hi and welcome, yes I echo the comments about the Northampton folks - they are great. You will have lots of fun and be made very welcome. The CBR600F was my first Honda and I loved it - enjoy!

Um, nope. It doesn't wear off.

A belated welcome to the forum from another Northants member... As Jennie says, there's generally plenty going on, and you'll be made to feel welcome. Or maybe you've already been made welcome, as I've missed a few weeks...

Good choice of bike btw, in fact I'm not sure you could have made a better choice. You'll struggle to find people with a bad word to say about the CBR600!
