New to HOC

Postby Waspie on Wed Jul 01, 2009 10:54 am

Quick intro from me, Doug aka Waspie.

Currently ride a Burgman 400. Yes I know an oversized moped!!! But it's me I'm afraid.

Reason I'm here? Going to buy a Honda Silverwing, thats the scooter version not the older big wheeler!!! The extra 200 cc and comfort will tick all the boxes for me. No doubt once I finally get the machine I will post more but in the mean while I shall soak in the ambiance and continue saving. :o))

Been riding for - ermmmm - years! I did the BikeSafe course here in Dorset a year or so ago, very good value for money. So I do take riding seriously. Too many people out there determined to thin us out by taking us out.

Take it easy out there, holiday season coming up so loads of lost grockles getting in the way.

Ride safe - stay alive.

Welcome Doug.
Not into Scooter type bikes personally, but different strokes. We're all on 2 wheels at the end of the day. I'm in Barca at the moment, and every man and his dog have scooters. Free parking anywhere and everywhere, i think the English councils could take a leaf out of the Spanish books.
Wow, i think i just got on a soapbox, time for more sangria.......

Welcome Waspie.
As Gazza says, it doesn't matter what you ride as long as you're a biker at heart :)

Thanks chaps.

Hearts into 'real' bikes. But 0 to 60 in under a couple of seconds would be the death of me - literally!!!

Nah, I'll stick to my maxi scoots and comfort!!!

Spot with the helicopter recognition there Witch. Westland Wasp Mk1, hence my moniker. I flew in them for many a year and aircrews were affectionately, (or not so affectionately), known as Waspies!! I have used the name for years as it represented some of the best times a chap could have.

The early ones were built at Fairey's in Hayes, Middlesex. I think I read that the design and development was done there too. Westland took over Fairey's in the government's forced re-org of the aircraft industry. Just look at the state of it now...........
(My dad used to work at Fairey Aviation, when they built fixed-wing aircraft, but left there in the mid 1950s)

The Westland Wessex was the british version of the Sikorsky S-58 "Choctaw ;o)

But your correct Westland Hellcopters was an amalgamation of Bristol, Fairey and Saunders-Roe which took place in 1961

I worked on this one here (amongst others) but this was the main aircraft that I was assigned to.... long gone to the graveyard now.
