hi there, i'm ben and live in beccles suffolk.

i'm currently doing my bike test.

i use to own a subaru imprezza but due to buying my first house it had to go.

i thought i'd make the jump to bike's to fill the void left by the sale.

i had my CBT in a couple of day's and my test a couple of week's after, i'm going to start looking for my frist bike shortly after.

i'm after a CBR600f sport, can any one tell me what i should be looking for when buying a used honda?

Hi Razy!
First "proper" bike CBR600F ? I suppose your first car was the Scoobie then ?
Why not get a less-powerful, cheaper bike first? Then you can gain some experience before moving onto a serious bike. Also, have you considered insurance costs? You're quite obviously not too young (if you could own a Scoobie) but as a new rider, it still won't be cheap.
What exactly do you mean by "can any one tell me what i should be looking for when buying a used honda?" as they are different, and have different faults or things to look out for, just like cars!
Suggest you by Ride magazine, as they always do tests used bikes of all makes, and sizes, all colours, pointing out the things to look out for on the models tested.

Welcome to the forum.

Don't think the CBR600Fs have anything in particular to look out for some of the steel framed ones had regulator/rectifier problems but not too much else. Some were raced (and still are) so look out for lockwire, drilled sump plugs etc.

thank's for your reply and concern.

i'm 23. i don't think i made myself very clear about the bit ''when looking for a used honda'' i'm just after as much information about the CBR600f sport as i can get.
i like to resurch as much as i can befor i buy some think so i have an idea what to look for.

i spent alot of time thinking about what bike to go for, i have very seriously thought about buying a less powerfull and cheaper bike top begin with.
i do only intend on riding in good weather, and can control the urge to ride beyond my very limited experiance.

once i've past my test i intend on getting more intence lesson's to make myself a better safer rider.

Welcome Ben, from another former WRX owner - albeit one who's much older! I don't know anything about the CBR600, but whatever sportbike you end up getting can I suggest that you get it onto a racetrack as soon and as often as possible. Trackdays are a great way of quickly and safely learning your limits, and without the danger of oncoming traffic they're also very safe. You have Snetterton just down the road, so it should be easier for you than most!

Something you will see as your riding progresses is that the difference between a novice rider and an expert one is MUCH bigger than the difference between a novice car driver and an expert one. I don't know why that is, but it's certainly true. The quicker you can climb that learning curve the better - and it sounds like you have all the right ideas.

I didn't start trackdays until I'd been riding for 20 years, and it's one of my biggest regrets that I didn't start earlier. The only downside is that it's addictive!

But it doesn't make you a better and safer ROAD rider, with all the hazards on the road, which you don't find on the racetrack. I agree, you will learn your limits, but it doesn't teach you about real-life riding. Proper training makes you a better rider, not getting your knee down. Trackdays are for fun and learning how your bike handles, but riding as if you're on the racetrack on the road all the time would get you into trouble in the end, one way or another.
Sadly, some do............

Hi Ben and welcome from me too!....I dont think the CBR600 is a bad choice for first 'Big' bike...No one says that you have to ride like a lunatic!..I reckon that if you get something lesser, you might get bored quickly! That said, get some insurance quotes as this may be the limiting factor!

....Good luck anyway and maybe see you at the National! 8) :o)

Yes and no. I have seen a lot of properly trained riders come a cropper because they only find out they don't know the 'real world' limitations of simultaneous steering and hard braking until they encounter their first 'emergency' situation.

I do agree though, it's a combination of three aspects (situational awareness, training and control) that makes a well-rounded rider. Some aspects of control are best learned on the racetrack. There's far more to that than just 'getting a knee down'.

that's for all your great reply's.

i sailed throught the CBT today and even got to go on there training 600cc bike. the instuctor feel's i stand a good chance with my test after some fine tuning.
i spoke to them about advanced riding lesson's, which they said we can talk about once i pass. the istructor i have is very good and doesn't sugar coat any think!

i start my DAS lesson's saturday morning, looking forward to them yet a little nervous about the power of the bike (but i think this is prob a good thing)
