** Wheres the Thermosate Valve on St1100??

Postby St1100 on Tue Jul 22, 2008 1:15 pm

Hi having problems with serious overheating.

Has had a oil change and expansion tank is at normall level so it looks like the water isnt going throught the system.
Could this be a blocked thermo valve and how do i find it? :o?

All help appreciated asap

My first question would be are the radiators getting hot? If they are much cooler than the engine this could suggest a faulty thermostat or failed water pump. Are the radiators clean? Is the water boiling in the expansion tank or just the gauge showing high?

Waters not boiling in the tank.
if your doing 50mph for example its keeping cool but as soon as you it traffic and have to slow down its shooting up and over heating. Obvuiously the cold airflow helps.

Going to try and manuel overide the thermostat and see if that helps

Has the bike got an electric fan (I don't know much about pans)? It sounds like that may not be kicking in when the temp goes up in traffic. It is normally controlled by a switch mounted on a rad. If the fan is not switching on short the two wires together at the switch and it should start. If it does the switch will require replacing, if it doesn't suspect the fan, the supply to it or it's fuse.
