VT250F Ride Height Adjustment

Postby Poison on Wed Jan 20, 2010 2:53 pm

Hi Folks,

I've just acquired a 1985 VT250F, which is running fine, albeit a little HIGH at the back for my stumpy little legs!

Can anybody tell me if there is the possibility of adjusting the Ride Height? I've looked "around the back" of the bike, but can see no obvious adjustment place/threaded bar or suchlike..........!

Help please!!!

I wouldn't think many bikes of that vintage would have such a thing anyway, least of all a VT250 !
You might be able to have the seat (foam) cut down, to make it easier for you.

Thanks for that Red,

I get the feeling that there IS not height adjustment for my bike. I think that its just too high is that the rear tyre is way oversize, and is pushing up the back maybe more than an inch............! :o(

Time to get a new pneu methinks!!!

An oversize tyre won't neccesarily make the rear end higher, if at all. Also, bikes don't usually have 'height adjustment' as such anyway (some expensive bike do have seat height adjustment though). Sounds as if you have a bike that is just too tall for you! That is very often a problem for those 'short in the leg'............so you're not alone.

Just to confirm, the VT250 doesn't have any ride height adjustment. There are a few ways used to alter ride height. Some bikes have a threaded top mount, which allows you to adjust the effective length of the spring/damper unit. You can use a longer or shorter spring, or you can use a longer/shorter linkage, which raises/lowers the back of the bike. Unfortunately, none of these options are available to you, at least if your VT is the same as the UK spec bike. The UK version used a fairly unusual damper design for such a small bike. It uses an air preloaded shock. I'm not even sure if it has a spring, there isn't one shown in the manual...
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

Thanks for that, 2 Strokes,

And you are dead right, this thing has a Hondamatixeareothingy suspension unit, but no length adjustment!!! However I have slung the fitted rear tyre (130/70 hardaswood) and fitted a 90/90..............difficult to get 18" tyres here in Philippines..............and the rear is all of half an inch lower.......................!!!

This will be a Project Bike, so my next step is to contruct (bodge) a spoked 17" wheel for the rear.

This is an excellent forum! Many thanks for those who have answered. You might even hear more from me once I've finished with my next few pieces of bodging...............!!! !!!
