1981 CB900 F2 been stood and wont start

Can you help pretty please - i have just purchased the above, its been stood for a while and i have put fresh fuel in got a spark on all four plugs, fuel is getting into the carbs it turns over but then i get most enormous back fire i've ever heard. i can only presume its jets are blocked maybe

Hi there Kingofbling,

if you are getting a backfire then there is fuel getting through....no fuel....no backfire. whether or not fuel is getting to all cylinder is another thing.

One of the first things I would check is to see that the correct ht leads go to the correct cylinders if these have been swapped for any reason that could cause a massive backfire because then the cylinders would be firing in the wrong order.
I'd sooner ride a Honda....than have 2 Harley's in the garage

Checked to ht lead order cheers, but found the problem !!! the obvious - it would help if it had the correct plugs, put them in and one touch of the button and it started no splutter at all.
