Any hints on looking after your bikes

Why won't it go???

Postby matt125521 on Tue Mar 04, 2008 9:17 am

Guys, went to take my CBR900RR ('96) out at the weekend, and as per usual, she fired up fine and rode nicely down my lane with the choke out.
At the end of the lane, I pulled up and pushed the choke back in and then stalled the bike!
Now she's refusing to start!!! The starter motor spins away when the key is turned, but nothing else... could anyone out there suggest what the problem could be?
Many thanks - Matt.

Sounds fuel related to me. Have you got enough in the tank? Fuel tap position, is it on or is reserve needed?

Also check the kill switch position.

8) ........couple of issues: when you say "The starter motor spins away when the key is turned, but nothing else..", do you mean the engine is turning over and not starting or the starter motor is spinning without turning the engine? That said, anther cause could be dirty plugs; running on choke is going to cause an excessively rich mixture and, when the engine cut out, would left the plugs wet and carbonized; take out the plugs and clean them. Before you take the plugs out, take of you filler cap and spin the engine over; that way you can see if fuel is getting through because the plugs will be wet. While the plugs are out check for a spark. If you have spark and fuel check you air filter to see if it's damp.

It does sound like fuel, however what investigating have your done and what were the results, eg is there a spark, were the spark plugs wet etc.
