Any hints on looking after your bikes

VFR voltage output

Postby prawnballs on Tue Feb 10, 2009 7:13 pm

I recently installed a new rectifier and generator in my VFR 750 FH, with the engin off the battery shows 13.4 at tickover (appx 800 rpm) a meter across the battery shows 14.4 volts, but when revs are increased the meter reading drops to about 14.1. The new bits have been in for about 3 months and I have had no problems since fitting just a bit worried about the readings I'm seeing.
Anyone got any suggestions or should this be OK ? :|

13.4V with the engine off is a lot better than my battery when new!
The Haynes manual quotes for the G through K models, @5000 rpm 13.7V to 15.3V.
So 14.1V to 14.4V appears to be within spec.
If you are really concerned, you could connect a small voltmeter which you could observe whilst riding.
If the battery seems to be well-charged, it is very probably working fine.

You aren't wrong I pushed my VFR800 from Aldgate East to Bank when the regulator packed in :) until I found a suitable hill to get it started again.

Should have got the District Line westbound two stops, from Aldgate East to Monument. You could have taken the bike as 'luggage', but you may have needed help on the escalator! ;o)

Sorry, that move's disallowed, as you didn't go via Cockfosters.

Yeah, under normal rules, but I was playing under the Kensington gambit, where Cockfosters is in nip and sideways moves are allowed [smilie=a_bravo.gif] [smilie=a_chuckle.gif]

Ah, didn't spot that. I obviously haven't got the current rules for the game. Apologies. You win then! ;o)

Looking up the VFR forum is the best place really, for VFR-related info. VFR rec/recs failures are very common, and they are not uncommon on other Honda models either.
