Flappy bits!

I never really realised how important some of those aerodynamic thingys were until coming home from the national rally. On the rear of my crash helmet is a vent. It has a nice plastic trim piece which somehow had become broken from on of its fixings allowing what seemed like a very small amount of movement. Sort it when I get home thinks I. Riding home at motorway speeds the effect was eyeball rattling causing blurred vision. All because above 65 the bit of vent started to flap about vigourously. This caused the whole helmet to destabilise.

Glued back into place very swiftly on arrival home. Will never doubt the wind tunnel testing again.

I too suffered 'eyeball rattling' on my way home down the A1, from the National. There was certainly a gale force wind blowing and what with the speed of the bike, at times there was wind sheer round my screen at times, that probably reached 140+mph. It was a bit like the wind rounding the corner of a building - it seems to speed up.

It felt like the bike was being blown sideways, but as it was happening so often I had time to think about it. The bike was not really be blown off line, it was my head and to a lesser extent my body that was yielding to the wind. If I tucked my head down, well below the screen, there was no real problem - just very uncomfortable!

I would rather ride in rain than strong cross winds.

On the ride down to squires Sunday there was alot of cross wind and felt it with a fairing of the CBR1000F once or twice felt like it was trying to take my front end away.

Martin on the Pan felt the same after chatting with him at Squires
