Thats a little harsh but it does seem to point to minimal maintenance and I would certainly recommend that the whole machine is inspected. what about front brakes? tyres, clutch and brake lever, suspension etc :o)

Not harsh, it's the truth. If it was being ridden with the rear brake pads "metal", then when were they last looked at? Pads do last quite a long time really. That's why they get neglected. And sprockets don't "lose a tooth" unless they are very badly worn.
There are too many bikes (and cars for that matter) which are used until something breaks, wears out or falls off, then just that part is fixed. (I know that can happen even to the best-maintained vehicle though.) They never get a routine service (probably not even as much as an oil change either). Amazingly they get through the MOT each year, then the owner thinks "that's it for 12 months"...........
Not expecting all owners to be mechanically-minded, but if they are not, they should get someone to check things occasionally for them, even if not a paid-for service. As you say, what about the rest of the machine? If it's involved in an accident (whoevers fault) the insurance company may not be too impressed if it's inspected by them, and may not pay out. Ignorance is no defence.

Hello all,

Can i just say i have only just bought this motorbike... about a week ago and this is the irst time looking over the bike and yes it has its problem's.

I do look after all my bikes that's how i still have a mint yamaha FS1E a mint CBX 550 (A reg) A almost (stil restoring it) BSA C15 250cc

I know how to look after bike's and i only came on here for a little help with something i was stuck on.

Suspension has just been replaced before i bought the bike with shoa (think thats how you spell it)
Front break's are perfect
Tyre's are brand new (mitch 2ct's) Pilot road
Clutch and engine is perfect
Frame is perfect
All the chrome is very highly polished
It has and still is a very looked after motorbike

I will post a piccy of the bike for you all and you can all decide yourself what condition it is in

It's not mint (few scratches on tank and a small dent on the left exhaust), It is in very good condition for J reg

Ride safe

Do not doubt your looking after bikes. However you are a little contradictory in saying this bike is a well looked after one merely from the stuff that was wrong when you asked the question we all tried to help with. The impression you sent out was that it was rather neglected as a well maintained bike does not have metal on metal brakes, broken sprockets and sticking bits. That is unless these all occurred on its last very long journey out.

Please do not get upset with members of this forum pointing out their suspicions when you have only provided them with evidence to support those suspicions. You have now given more information and we can understand something a little differently.

Glad it all seems to be getting better now.

I thought the whole point of this forum was a place to ask for help, which honda dreamer has, and not to be castigated for it? She's had the bike for a week and found some faults and should be congratulated. The chain and sprocket fault and the rear brake pads are signs of poor maintenance but have quickly been picked up. How many bikers tell you you they don't use their rear brakes anyway? Not just bikes but anything can look good on the outside and have a rotten interior (not saying for one minute that your bike's rotten Wendy), so you can't always judge a book by its cover.

I'm sure the bike will get a good going over and any problems sorted out if her other bikes are anything to go by, so give her a break.

Keep us informed of the progress Wendy and post some pictures up of your bikes.

Regards

Chimpy

Hi Wendy

Looks nice. I'm sure after a good check over and service it will be a great bike (that model 750 had a good reputation).

From what we can see in the photo, yes, it does look to be in pretty reasonable condition after all! Shame we can't see the bit you were enquiring about!
No need for apologies,(and I hope I haven't offended you as it wasn't intended) but it would have helped if you had described it first, before saying about the chain problem!

So, a girl calls her bike "he" does she? As opposed to a bloke calling his bike "she"..........

This has me confused though:

I think Dibble made a very good point if we had been given ALL the information that we now have from the beginning then things would have been alittle easier ;o)

The bike looks great and I think you have done well Wendy to start looking for the little probs that arrise when buying a bike....It looks like the bike has been well looked after apart from the fact that there no excuse really for overlooking thing like worn brake pads chain and sprockets these are things that should checked at regular intervals but this is not down to you but down to the previous owner.....and he/she should have checked things like this, and more before selling the bike on and having done so then have made it clear to you in what condition the bike was at the time of sale.

Yep looks nice. ? Have the forks been painted as I do not recall Black being standard fit. They were more of a laquered finish on the 92 bikes. As I said I had one from new and the laquer does chip and fail so painted up to balck could be a later mod.

What mileage doe this one have.

Hello again,

Thank you all for saying he look's nice, and yup i don't know about all women calling thier bike's male but i have always done :D because they do what I tell them to ;)

@Red V four, Nahh you won't offend me, That takes allot i am not easily offended TBH :D
I felt there was a reson for my oppology's, I should have explained the situation a bit clearer,
This has me confused though:
If at first you don't suceed........Distroy all evidence that you ever tyred! (Just a saying i have said for year's) I got confused when i first got myself a mobile phone and tryed and tryed and tryed to figure it out and then eventually when i had had enough...... Through it at a wall

@Dibble, I am not sure on that TBH, The fork's was like this when i bought the bike, Bike has 2435660 (4)
Not sure if that is low or high, Since i have ha the bike i have done 105 miles on it... Was planned to go to wales this week coming on the bike BUT with this problem i had i cancled the trip.. So hopefully going in a few weeks time :) So thats about another 400ish (not sure) for him..

@Chimpy, The bike is booked in for wednesday for full service, Been looking at the documents for it and seen its due a service now :)

@Witchmaster, I will admit, I should realy have looked at the bike properly before my first ride out on the bike and if i had i would have noticed, I just didn't think of looking tbh i was so excited and just wanted to ride it.. I will know different next time i buy a bike..

Anyone know where i can get some chrome indicator's for the front for this bike i have chrome one's on the rear but plastic on the front and it's annoying me now, Everone keeps saying to me "the ticker's look odd" Grrr, I have looked on Ebay but can't find any (maybe looking in the wrong places)

Ride safe,
THANK YOU ALL, for the coment's on the bike :)
