CD250U Engine swap?

Postby Hooklift on Tue May 06, 2008 9:40 am

Hi,

First post, so hello to everyone!

I recently aquired a 1989 Honda CD250U which I really like for it's small size, light weight and low power, (i'm not a speed king). However, the engine is high mileage, very tired and smokes a bit.

I have no problem in spending time in attempting to recon the engine, but would like to continue using the bike, for pleasure, during this summer. I have looked around for a 'spare' engine, at reasonable money, without joy, but have seen a number of CB250 twin engines - is this the same and interchangable??

It not, are there any straight swop engines?

Thanks for your time, any replies gratefully received.

Hello to everyone, first post for me too!

First of all, congratulations for the aquirance of an awesome machine!

I do not know, if your post is still actual, but I will add what I know anyway.

I have some doubts about if a twin cylinder CB 250 engine fits in the CD chassis, without serious modifications. Note also, that there are many variants of these engines, for various CB 250 models, from 1971 until today.

If a "straight swap" CB 250 engine exists, then it might be the engine of the last model (the so called "Nighthawk" or "two fifty").

Despite all the above, I am almost sure, that the engines of the CM 250 and the CMX 250 ("Rebel") are "straight swap" engines.

Best regards,

Panagiotes.
