I notice there are many items posted on the For Sale Forum that do not display their membership number - maybe you ought to approach them in the manner you approached us.

Hi Alan and Stritchy,

I have a work mate who's giving up biking and want's to sell his 2000 model Blackbird. Could I place an ad on the forum under my HOC number or would this not be allowed?

Cheers,

JB

I joined the HOC Forum as I am buying a ST1100 and selling my Deauville.

When I joined it was for discussion and sharing of technical advice as per the DeauvilleUK.org forum.

At the top it says:

The Honda Owners Club
A discussion forum for all existing and future members of the HOC - http://www.hoc.org.uk

If I must join the HOC to advertise then I will probably not stay on the forum.

Yes, vet for sale items as being reasonable and not porn.... timeshares... or other dubious items, or even people who are unethical in their approach to selling, but 'you must be a member to sell' will not do the HOC any favours as it comes across as just a wee bit of a clique.

I have advertised my DV as I am a Honda owner and thought, just maybe, someone here would appreciate a good used Honda from someone who is still a Honda owner and generally swears by them... however, I must be a member to advertise does seem a little tight.

If that is the case then surely you need to reword the header and add the terms,

'Except for the For Sale and Wanted Section'

Sorry, bit of a rant that but there we go. :o?

As you point out it is a discussion board for members of the HOC, or future members, so what is wrong with those members that have paid their membership a little bit of a privilege, to buy and sell as well as the discussion.

In which case, set up an exclusive HOC forum for paid up members and you can then all hide behind a members log in.....

Certainly taking this attitude of 'where's your membership number and details', is not attracting members to the HOC.
It's a bit like saying 'you must tell us where you live or you can't advertise'.....

Also if this is the line being taken just let me know and I will withdraw my advert for my deauville and seek out a more amenable group...... :o(

Sad.

Its a simple rule for the disscusion board, anybody can join the chat, but the benifit of membership of the HOC, on the HOC forum is advertising on the HOC forum.

As Jimmy says, those are the rules. There has to be some advantages to being an HOC member - and this is one of them.

After all, if you visited a different country, you wouldn't expect to just obey those rules you wanted to and ignore the rest - or would you?
