Then we (Andy and I) will have to police it better. Which may well cause some resentment.

This is a public based forum and I don't think I can set it so that only HOC members can access just the "For Sale" bit.

Personally, I don't think it is that much of a jumble sale (yet).

More opinions sought please.

:D I don't understand the technicalities of it all but I just think if non members put things for sale on here (not quite sure how we recognise them) but I think we should put a friendly note on the forum, with a pm telling them all the benefits of membership (including that in their membership fee they could place a free ad with picture in the Golden Wing which is sent out to all our members). I think it is important that we stay friendly and welcoming and encourage them to join. :P

Although I have not used the sales and wants,
Yes it should be members only, I understand the problems though.
Also it should be at least bike related, but not specifically Honda.
The suggestion of the membership number with the advert is great, and the post is removed if the above is not attached.
Maybe you need more help on the admin side

No, It's not too bad at the moment.

Posting a membership number is a good idea, as it's likely that there are a number of HOC members, who do not use the forum on a regular basis, but would use it to advertise bikes or parts for sale.
I think regular forum users would recognise the majority of non members who appear, and disregard the advert.
Just my two pence worth..
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

It's up to the original authors to add a reply saying it has been sold. Otherwise, they can stay for ever.

So does that mean when a post is made there is no way to go back and delete the post at another time. Or am i just being thick.

The original author can delete it and the administrators can delete it (just send me a message and I can do it).

Any poster can delete their own posts - see the little "X" at the top right...

Why do you ask?

1983 Silver Wing

Postby billmcco on Thu Oct 04, 2007 10:34 am

I just inherited a 1983 Silver Wing. It is definitely a project bike. It has good plastic and needs a lot of work. I am looking for info on parts and/or to sell this bike. I would appreciate any help that can be given. The bike hasn't been ridden in about 10 years.

bill,

Try David Silver Spares for bits.

This post would have been better in a post of it's own - rather than as a reply to "Rules of the Game".

Hi, I'm one of these persons you're trying to keep out of the sales and wanted section until they have become HOC members. I think that HOC is going to damage its own objectives doing so. I do not intend to become a member because I'm no enthusiast of club life (neither in Germany not in the Uk or anywhere else). I just tried to sell NOS parts for old CB 250/350 K models (exhausts, down pipes left over from my restorations) but I'm prevented by your policy. As a result you are preventing your members to get parts as rares as snow in summer. OK,it's your policy...

I just deleted a post by Geoff.adams. It was in the wrong place - Geoff, please work out how to use this forum.

Sorry if this is "dictatorial" but it is for the good of all the members and, Geoff, you will get more attention if it is posted as a topic in it's own right.
