:D Barry - brilliant - just send an email to Graham and I am sure he will be delighted to send you a list of all those members in your area - including the new ones who joined at the NEC. Dibble and the rest of the gang will all give you as much support as we can.

Hello Stritchy, hope you are happy in your new home.

I am still waiting for someone in Essex to PM me. There is no way I could start it up on my own. I am looking to find a younger, more physically reliable member who I could cooperate with.

Barry

Hopefully, now with more members joining (11 is it in the last week or so) you should get some offers of help. I would, if I was anywhere near you, but with a 200 mile round trip I think it's not really practical.

Good luck

I do appreciate all the words of encouragement, but as it will be at least another month before I can get my riding boots on, I really need a younger and fitter person to get anything moving.

A grey haired, pipe smoking septuagenarian turning up at a bikers meet in a 7 series BMW, to try to being some cohesion and collective objective to their biking enjoyment, is not going to cut much ice!

I am on both the Transalp and Deauville forums and do plug the HOC whenever I get the opportunity. There has been a couple of meetings of local riders but I have been unable to get along to them on the bike. Perhaps when I am more mobile, I will be able get along to a few meets and try to bring the riders into the Club.

My problem is, that I do not represent the ideal face of the HOC-GB :(

That's a very interesting statement Barry, and probably worthy of a new thread on it's own.

So what is the ideal face of the HOC?

I also do not consider my self to be such and I'm sure the committee wouldn't want me to be thought of as representative of the HOC. Can you imagine "The face of the HOC, middle aged man riding around on a kiddies motorcrosser having fun". I don't think so.

Regards

Rubbish! There is no such thing as an unacceptible face of HOC and I am sure that the Committee would all agree with me. Everyone is an individual and brings something different to the Club - and every member is equally important and a part of the Club. Its good to have a variety.

If we are being personal, who would say a batty blonde who dashes around on an ageing, increasingly high mileage, rusty round the edges VFR is an ideal representative (actually - my description of the bike matches an honest one of me ! 8))

Erica

I think there's quite a difference between unacceptable and ideal. I'm sure that nobody (well I sincerely hope not) falls under the unacceptable label. In fact the club would be discriminatory if such a label existed.

My perception of the Honda Owners Club has always been of middle aged people, often couples riding touring bikes, and after 10 or so years of membership still is. That is why I see myself as not an ideal face as I don't conform to the norm, I ride strange (at times) bikes and am a loner.

I said this is worthy of a new thread, sorry Barry for the hijack.

Regards

:D yes, do agree a lot of members are as you describe but I do not think there is a 'norm'. When I think of our members, we do have a lot that are different and a bit 'off the wall' (I would include myself in that category as well!!!!!) but even our 'loners' seem to enjoy some of the things we get up to and turn up 'quietly'

You do need someone with enthusiasm. This invariably means someone still discovering the wider enjoyment of biking. Someone who can look foreword to camping or a tour of France. Who happily rides with couples and enjoys encouraging learners and beginners. Someone who can jolly members along.

That's me as I used to be, but no now. Jaded, just about sums me up - tired out and worn-out!

It just needs someone who cares and is willing to make the effort to get it going!..leadership/planning/organising skills are a plus but ultimately, Er..as we found in the Lincs Branch..it still needs members who are willing to support the branch... 8)

..Barry, age is not the issue... :)
