Honda Owners Track Day 25th March 2009

Honda Owners Track Day 25th March 2009

Postby 2 Strokes on Thu Feb 12, 2009 9:14 pm

Not really a meeting. Or a rideout, but looks like fun to me...

Focused events are holding a track day especially for Honda's at Donnington Park.
Anyone fancy a go??

They say that they've invited various Honda Owners clubs, but I haven't seen anything on here.

but, maybe I missed it.

This is being advertised as a Honda Owners Club event. Be assured that it is no such thing and I am unaware that any of our branches have been contacted directly. These people are using the club's name without our permission. Further investigation is in hand.

Well, thanks for the hammer to crack a walnut approach Graham... but I don't think it is being advertised as you suggest. However, you do as you see fit.

It's a track day for Honda Owners, simple as that. They also run Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha track days.

I've paid my money, and I'm going. Donnington is a fantastic circuit. Not to be missed, especially as the layout may be changing.

If anyone else is interested, it'd be great to see you there. Oh, by the way, it is acceptable to transport your machine to this event in a van, or on a trailer. Unlike some of the "HOC" events  ;o)

I'm hoping to get a couple of other NS riders there for the day too. Should be a giggle 8)

I have to say, that isn't the way I read it, but they do call it 'Honda Owners Club Trackday at Donington Park GP' which certainly implies that we have organised it.
However, we certainly never received an invitation   which is a great shame and a bit annoying.

Enjoy the day 2 Strokes, as you say it's a cracking circuit.

Is this officially sanctioned now? We (Reading) have received an invitation from Focused Events.

I would like a bit of clarification before posting links etc on our website.

Not had one in Manchester yet - but the secretary only contacts me every 2 weeks or so !!

Anyway, it can't be officially sanctioned unless the management committee have agreed. That's what we voted them in for :)

Looking at it again, this 'advert' cheekily has the HOC(GB) logo quite prominently shown, suggesting it is an HOC event. They don't actually refer to it as the "Honda Owners Club day", merely "Honda Owners Trackday" - not quite the same thing.
(You read what you thought it would say, because you saw the logo, and you relate it to "Honda Owners Club".)
They have also invited all "Honda Owners Clubs" (how many are there?)!
To those not so easily fooled, it quite obviously isn't anything to do with the club, and they are trying to gain business by giving HOC members the impression that the club actually has something to do with it, and without any benefit to the club itself. If this was any other business, the solicitors would be being in contact........
Perhaps 'The Management' should get in touch with them?
(Interestingly, the Suzuki, Kawasaki and Ducati Owners Trackdays do not have their club's logos shown!)

No - that's not how I read it. I've been on their track days before, so I KNEW this wasn't a HOC event.

I hadn't noticed the logo, as it's not really clear enough to distinguish it as the HOC logo straight away (on my screen at least), but I do accept that it's being cheeky.

Quite honestly, I wish I hadn't posted the event on the forum. I did it with good intentions, thinking there may be a few like minded people on here who would enjoy the day. I didn't se the political implications.

However, that's a lesson learned, and I won't do it again. Sorry.

Not getting at you personally at all, it's just that they are taking a bit of a liberty in putting the club logo on it (and you need a bigger screen! ;o) ).
Any non-HOC member checking out that website may think it is an HOC event, so it appears they are trying to cash in on the HOC's good name.
Surely a business should seek the HOC's permission before using our logo? if anything, you have made the HOC aware of this.

Graham Seymour has contacted them and they agreed to take the word Club out of the headline - which they have done.
They also, hurriedly, sent out invitations to all the Branch Secs.

Looking at the site again, I now see that they have put the HOC logo on the page! :o0
This might be my fault as when I added them to the Links page I sent a logo, hoping for a link back from their page.

Please don't stop posting things like this 2 strokes.
It's better to know and as you say, there will be others who want to take part. :o))

I didn't think for a seconed that it was an HOC event... just an event for those who happen to own Hondas and are in clubs for Honda owners...... I don't see a problem even if folks did think it is one of ours really (perhaps niaive of me) - I bet it will be an absolutely cracking day for all who go and a bit of free publicity for the club in this way can't be a bad thing surely?

I see that the Northants Branch got it's invitation on 16th Feb :o) excellent...

If I am suitably recovered I might go along to watch things! Not only that - can you imagine the membership potential!!! Has anyone thought of asking about us having a pitch there at all???? Is there anyone available to host one or hand out fliers etc???

Just a thought but what a golden prime target membership opportunity I reckon!!

That website has now been altered, with the Honda logo replacing the HOC logo, and all reference to the Honda Owners Club changed.
