Box Hill

Box Hill

Postby Chimp Boy on Tue Apr 24, 2007 12:27 pm

I saw this Hornet at the Box Hill bike meet last Saturday. It looked so good I just had to take a picture of it.

I wasn't too interested in the MV Augusta you can see in the top left corner, not really, honestly!

Admit it Charlie, you just can't use a camera

I think the F4 is one of the best looking bikes on the road 8)
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

I think it's beautiful too, I just didn't want to publish the full size photo on a Honda forum  .

I cannot see the photo's either. I don't know if I need to adjust my settings since the forum move or if it is my puter that is causing the problem.

I know it's no consolation - but no-one can see the picture, as it's no longer on the flickr.com website

Had a nice little ride out to Box Hill today, in fact it was the first time I had ridden the VFR since the National Rally at Weymouth but it was worth it :o)) . It was a bit Pearl Harbour when I left home this morning and maybe I should have worn more than just an HOC tee shirt underneath my leathers. I stuck to the main roads rather than some of my favourite back lanes but even these were very slippery. Many of the roads had dead leaves compressed into the surface making them like covered in soap. Also there were many traces of diesel evident on bends which frankly scares the crap out of me. The roads were so slippery that even the lowly power of the VFR made the back wheel spin up on two occasions.

Box Hill was fairly quite today with only around 30 bikes there while I was present, the most interesting being a new Moto Morini V twin that looked quite nice.

As I returned home later the sun began to shine and the roads began to dry allowing me to use more than the 7000 RPM I had been sticking to earlier. It was very rewarding though, the whine of the camshafts drive gears and the evocative sound of the 360 degree crank V4s exhaust was music to my ears. It will be even better next time if the roads are really dry though.

The bike needs a really good clean now as it got thoroughly filthy from the damp conditions but what the heck.

I'm sure Reading Branch will have a ride out to Box Hill in the future and of course the Oxford crew would be more than welcome to join us. Summer Sunday afternoons are best with sometimes around 250 bikes attending. The nice thing is that Whiteways Picnic Area (Bury Hill, near Arundel) is not too far away and Newlands Corner, Guildford is very close. Both these places also attract many bikes during the summer. One of my favourite biking roads can be used to link these three stops together also taking in either Bognor or Littlehampton for a lunch stop. I do this at least once every summer and it's a real buz.

I can see the Hornet and WOW what a nice paint job 8)

I used to go regularly to Boxhill when I lived only 6 miles away, but now I live in the Midlands it's a bit far to go just for a ride, but when I visit my parents I try and get along, that's if I'm on the bike  and usually there are lots & lots of nice machines to look at ;o)

Yep - excellent place Box Hill. Oxford went there about three years ago and had a great day - stopping somewhere-really-nice-where-I-cannot-remember-the name for lunch at a cafe. A joint ride would be a great idea! :o))

Chimpy,

A bit slow I know but I've just spotted this post.

You probably didn't realise it but I can understand why your sub-conscious was being drawn towards the MV, they've copied the red & silver colour scheme from the VFR800 Anniversay model ;o)
